  • Chesterton Academy Initiatives

    Chesterton Academy of St. Padre Pio was incorporated in March of 2023 as an LLC in the state of Florida and was granted not for profit status in September of 2023. Inspired by Saint Pope John Paul II, we take as our motto Cultura Vitae, the Culture of Life. We make it our mission to prepare our students to triumph over the materialism and despair that pervade our culture and to accept our Lord's offer to have life and have it abundantly. Our classical curriculum combines a broad liberal arts education with a strong emphasis on the cultivation of Christian virtues and an appreciation of beauty. During the fiscal year July 1, 2023-June 30, 2024, many milestones were achieved that helped us lay a strong foundation for years to come. The founding board of directors, with the support and guidance of the Chesterton Schools Network, worked tirelessly to make the dream of a classical high school in the Catholic tradition a reality to meet the growing demand of the Sarasota, Florida market. A large portion of the cost for being a part of the network was paid by founding board members with their personal funds. We launched our website and social media accounts and began to spread the good news about our school. Our founding Headmistress began working in March 2023 for a stipend and then signed a contract in June. Hiring 2 full-time and 5 part-time faculty fulfilled our teaching needs for the inaugural school year. Our Board Treasurer agreed to serve pro bono as the school's executive director. We sent four staff members to the Chesterton Schools Network annual conference for professional training and development. We began purchasing the necessary textbooks and supplies for our students. We contracted with TADS as our school information system and began the process of accepting applications. We accepted twenty 9th to 11th grade students for the school year that began August 12, 2024. As the fiscal year came to a close, we continued to work on finding a location for our school and putting all the necessary pieces into place to begin educating the hearts and minds of our students in truth, goodness and beauty. We look forward in hope and gratitude to what the years ahead will bring.
