Economic Success and Support Services
SEADCs Economic Success Department (ES) consists of four discrete programs. Adult Workforce Development/Specialized Job Center provides clients with support with seeking/obtaining employment and/or with support with applying for admission to post-secondary educational programs. Housing Support Services supports clients who seek short-term, long-term, subsidized, or market-rate housing, and also assists tenants in resolving disputes or tensions with landlords and/or neighbors. ESL/Naturalization Support Services provides ESL instruction and tutoring designed to help green card holders past the US civics/history/geography exam that one must pass in order to become a naturalized citizen. Southeast Asian Support Services is a wide-ranging program that provides Info & Referral regarding various low-/no-cost resources, public and private, available locally (e.g., food banks, Covid testing sites) and support for clients as they pursue self-selected goals. ES serves approximately 400 clients annually, the vast majority of them Southeast Asians. SEADCs Youth Development Department (YD) consists of three discrete programs. The Southeast Asian Academic Support Project provides primary and middle school students with academic tutoring and enrichment, social and leadership skills, and opportunities to explore cultural identity. The Emerging Community Leaders Program provides high school students with academic tutoring and enrichment, social and leadership skills, and opportunities to explore cultural identity. The Mayors Youth Employment & Education Program provides transition-age youths, primarily but not exclusively high school students, with academic tutoring and enrichment, social and leadership skills, and opportunities to explore cultural identity, as well as assistance for youths seeking employment and/or admission to post-secondary education. All YD programs operate year-round (including a summer session), and YD serves over 100 clients annually, the majority of them Southeast Asians. SEADCs Health & Wellness Department (H&W) consists of five discrete programs. Elevate Youth California provides high school students with Environmental Prevention Training, Life Skills Training, and Adult Mentorship, all designed to help clients gain the knowledge and perspective needed to make safe and healthy lifestyle decisions. Asian Youth Prevention Services provides 5th grade students with Life Skills Training based on the evidence-based Botvin curriculum, and it provides high school students with Environmental Prevention Training. Southeast Asian Health Ambassadors provides transition-age youths with education about healthy eating and with facilitation of their self-selected initiatives pertaining to research, advocacy, and community engagement pertaining the communitys food/nutrition-related needs. Asian & Pacific Islander Youth & Family Community Support Services provides outreach, case management, and mental health counseling to youths and young adults with mental health challenges. Southeast Asian Mental Health Initiative provides outreach, wellness-promoting events, case management, and mental health counseling (both one-on-one and in group settings) to clients of various ages. H&W serves over 300 clients annually, the majority of them Southeast Asians.
