Program 1 [2020]
Renaissance Peninsula, located in East Palo Alto, where nearly one-third of families live below the poverty level and economic inequality, especially for women, is stark and growing. Silicon Valley extreme income disparity is being exacerbated by the pandemic, further increasing the struggles of families to survive. Having launched the first and only small business incubator in 2015, we adjusted to support tenant businesses during the pandemic. We maintained a 77% tenancy rate with clients reporting they would have had to close their businesses permanently if they could not have operated in our facility. In partnership with the County of San Mateo and SAMCEDA, Renaissance created an assistan program to provide resources directly to lower-income business owners desperately in need of capital to sustain their operations and livelihoods. We distributed $3,625,000 in assistance of $5,000 - $25,000 directly to 207 San Mateo County small business owners; $1.9M of these funds were granted to business owners in East Palo Alto, Belle Haven, North Fair Oaks, East Menlo Park and Redwood City. To meet the needs of emerging retail businesses, we pivoted our pop-up Entrepreneurs' Marketplace to virtual markets - food and product businesses were able to sell their wares, test their products, increase their visibility and reach new customers.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$4.2MProgram 2 [2020]

Renaissance Bayview, San Francisco: In 2020, Renaissance expanded our virtual business consulting to support emerging and established entrepreneurs in Bayview Hunters Point, one of the Bay Area's most under-resourced, lowest-income communities significantly impacted by the pandemic. Renaissance Bayview worked intensively with minority and women-owned small businesses in the construction sector, delivering training and mentoring support, helping small contractor businesses access contracts and create quality jobs for local community residents. We expanded our small business empowerment and mentorship program for women residents of public housing, culminating in "RenTanks" where graduates pitch their businesses to a panel of judges and receive cash awards.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$700.1K
