TORTOISE GROUP
Programs
STEM Education for Elementary Students
STEM classes: Tortoise Group (TG) is helping augment the current Clark County School District curriculum by offering free STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) before and after school modules for 1st through 5th graders (this is the age group most CCSD principals have identified as neediest). TG teaches a 9-week course; each course is broken down by CCSD teaching objectives. Math and science are taught to this age group through the lens of the desert tortoise - the classes are informative and educational and give kids an interest in the natural environment around them. TG also provides one-off classroom appearances/assemblies upon request from schools.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$0Captive Desert Tortoise Adoption Program

Wild tortoise conservation initiatives: Tortoise Group partners with several federal, state, and local agencies with the sole intent of conserving our state's reptile. Through partnerships with United States Geological Survey (USGS), the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), Nevada Dept of Wildlife (NDOW), and Clark County Desert Conservation Program (DCP), and many more, TG is able to augment existing studies and research projects as well as providing volunteer labor hours to assist in ongoing conservation projects in Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument (TUSK), Lake Mead National Rec Area, and uninhabited portions of the Mojave Desert within NV. TG is at the forefront of providing volunteers for "citizen science" projects.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$0
