Community Engagement in East Bay
Approximately 79% of youth at our School and Community partner sites attend Title I schools, mainly in East and West Oakland. For FY24, Destiny reached over 5500 young people ages 3-18. Onsite at our North Oakland Center, 565 students were enrolled in our culturally-affirming movement arts classes. We hosted 62 residencies at 39 sites, reaching over 4,000 young people in neighborhoods where they learn, play, and live. Destinys Teddy Bear Movement early childhood classes expanded to four community sites. Over the past year, Destiny Arts Youth Performance Company (DAYPC, ages 13-18) and Destiny Junior Company (DJC, ages 9-12) transitioned back into a full performance schedule, creating an original show which debuted at Laney College.
