  • Community Archives Access Program

    We assisted authors artists scholars and other researchers in accessing the archives with a goal of increasing awareness and understanding of local community histories through virtual and in-person services. Activities included acquiring new collections documenting local histories digitizing collections with an aim of increasing access assisting with remote and in-person research requests and providing archival materials for exhibits on local histories and community issues as well as for creative products and books. Concurrent with these activities we focused on developing and strengthening key back-end administrative digital technology and physical infrastructures to increase our capacity to provide these services including with prior year grant support.

  • Community Education and Engagement Program

    We worked with schools educators and students as well as staff of local community-based organizations and community residents to access use and analyze our archives with a goal of increasing their ability to learn from and understand local community histories. Activities included conducting class presentations and educational workshops aimed at increasing capacity for civic participation on issues impacting the local community as well as working with local community groups to provide a safe and welcoming space for community meetings and events on current issues.

  • Youth Support and Resource Program

    We offered services resources for local youth and other residents with a goal of strengthening our local community. Activities included providing access to and assistance with basic information technology and food clothing and hygiene resources mostly to low-income Black and Latinx residents from the Librarys South Los Angeles neighborhood.
