ATP continued to deliver value to its members through sponsorships, TV, prize money, and pension benefits across the 2020 ATP Tour season, which was marked by considerable operational disruption due to COVID-19. In March, the pandemic prompted a 5-month shutdown of the ATP Tour. During this period, ATP came together with WTA, ITF and Grand Slams to deliver over US$ 6 million in relief payments to support the players. ATP also introduced a number of mental health and education partnerships, providing resources to assist the health, wellbeing and development of members. Following the suspension, tournament members were granted relief in the form of reductions to base prize money levels and Tour fees. On-site prize money on the ATP Tour totaled approximately US$ 60 million in 2020 across 30 events, down from US$ 142 million in 2019. ATP delivered US$ 22,900 pension contributions per player, for a total contribution of US$ 3.7 million. In addition, the ATP Challenger Tour delivered a total of US$ 4.8 million in prize money, down from US$ 12.3 million the year prior.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided––Program 2 [2020]
The ATP's marketing and promotional efforts continued to elevate the profile of professional tennis in 2020. Approximately 451 million viewers tuned in on television and online throughout the season. The ATP introduced a comprehensive new marketing campaign, 'This Is Tennis', marking a shift in the positioning of the sport. In April, ATP and WTA collaborated to launch 'Tennis United', a digital-first show created as an outlet for players' voices during the suspension of the tours due to COVID-19. The show generated over 100 million impressions across 12 episodes on Facebook, its primary distribution channel, and received the Leaders Sports Award in the Content Creation category. The Tour's official website, ATPTour.com, attracted 76 million visits, with total website page impressions reaching 258 million. In parallel, the ATP's total social media following grew to a record 9.1 million across official accounts.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided––Program 3 [2020]
The ATP successfully governed the men's professional tennis circuits - the ATP Tour; the ATP Challenger Tour; and the ATP Champions Tour. The ATP Tour features over 60 tournaments in 30 countries in a typical season. In January 2020, ATP launched a brand-new team event, ATP Cup, in partnership with Tennis Australia. The event was hosted across three cities in Australia and delivered over US$ 14.8 million in prize money. Starting in March, the 5-month shutdown of the ATP Tour led to the cancellation of 37 events and postponement of several others. During the remainder of the season ATP issued four new single-year event licenses, unprecedented in its history, to provide additional playing opportunities. In total, the 2020 season featured 30 ATP Tour events. In November, the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals was held for the 12th and final time at The O2 in London, ahead of relocation to its new home in Turin, Italy, from 2021. Played behind closed doors, the 2020 event generated a record video audience across broadcast, digital and social of 178 million. Turin will become the 15th city to host the prestigious season-ending tournament since its inception in 1970.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided––
