GRAMMY CAMP - FOCUSING ON ALL ASPECTS OF COMMERCIAL MUSIC, GRAMMY CAMP PROVIDES INTERACTIVE RESIDENTIAL AND NON-RESIDENTIAL SUMMER MUSIC INDUSTRY TRAINING FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. THE VARIETY OF CAREER TRACKS OFFERED EXPLORE THE CREATIVE PROCESS AND ENGAGE STUDENTS IN THE TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF PERFORMING, RECORDING AND DISTRIBUTION, WHILE EMPHASIZING NEW AND EMERGING MUSIC INDUSTRY TRENDS. RESIDENTIAL GRAMMY CAMPS WERE HELD IN NEW YORK AND LOS ANGELES, WHILE A 5-DAY NON-RESIDENTIAL VERSION WAS HELD IN NASHVILLE. MUSIC CAREER TRACKS COVERED INCLUDED AUDIO ENGINEERING, ELECTRONIC MUSIC PRODUCTION, MUSIC JOURNALISM, MUSIC BUSINESS, SONGWRITING, VOCAL PERFORMANCE, INSTRUMENTAL PERFORMANCE AND VIDEO PRODUCTION.IN 2014-15 GRAMMY CAMP WEEKEND WAS ADDED TO THE CAMP PROGRAMS. GRAMMY CAMP - WEEKEND IS A ONE DAY NON-RESIDENTIAL MUSIC INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE WHERE A SMALL GROUP (20-30) OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS CAN GAIN AN INTRODUCTION TO THE BUSINESS OF MUSIC. EACH WEEKEND SESSION CONCENTRATES ON ONE TO THREE CAREER TRACKS (AUDIO ENGINEERING, ELECTRONIC MUSIC PRODUCTION, SONGWRITING, VIDEO PRODUCTION OR VOCAL PERFORMANCE). PARTICIPANTS LEAVE WITH A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF HOW THE MUSIC BUSINESS WORKS AND HOW THEY CAN BEGIN TO PLAN A SUCCESSFUL CAREER PATH. GRAMMY SIGNATURE SCHOOLS - THE GRAMMY SIGNATURE SCHOOLS PROGRAM HONORS TOP PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAMS THAT PROMOTE AND PRESERVE MUSIC EDUCATION AS A KEY PART OF THEIR CURRICULUM. THE FOUNDATION CONVENES A PANEL OF EXPERTS TO REVIEW APPLICATIONS, AUDIO AND PRINTED MATERIALS TO SELECT THE BEST MUSIC PROGRAMS IN THE COUNTRY. UNDERSTANDING THAT MANY SCHOOLS STRUGGLE TO SUSTAIN MUSIC CLASSES, MUCH LESS A FULL MUSIC CURRICULUM, THE FOUNDATION INTRODUCED THE ENTERPRISE AWARD IN 2004, SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR SCHOOLS WITH ECONOMIC NEEDS. ALL SELECTED SCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAMS RECEIVE CASH GRANTS. ADDITIONALLY SCHOOLS GARNERING GOLD LEVEL AWARDS, AND HIGHER RECEIVE A SPECIAL CUSTOM AWARD AND A MEDIA WORTHY VISIT FROM A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE GRAMMY FOUNDATION.IN 2015, 13 PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAMS FROM 13 CITIES AND 9 STATES WERE HONORED WITH CASH AWARDS TOTALING $61,000. THIS YEAR A.N. MCCALLUM HIGH SCHOOL IN AUSTIN, TX WAS NAMED THE NATIONAL GRAMMY SIGNATURE SCHOOL.IN 2011, THE GRAMMY FOUNDATION CREATED THE GRAMMY SIGNATURE SCHOOLS COMMUNITY AWARD. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM THE GRAMMY FOUNDATION IDENTIFIES DESERVING PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAMS TO RECEIVE THE AWARD AND A FINANCIAL GRANT OF $2,000. FUNDING FOR THE PROGRAM HAS COME FROM GRAMMY FOUNDATION PARTNERS BEST BUY, THE HOT TOPIC FOUNDATION, CONVERSE, JOURNEYS AND RBC. GRAMMY CAMP - JAZZ SESSION - THIS PROGRAM IDENTIFIES, SELECTS AND REWARDS TOP HIGH SCHOOL INSTRUMENTALISTS AND SINGERS WITH ELEVEN DAYS FILLED WITH ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME OPPORTUNITIES. ENSEMBLE MEMBERS TRAVEL TO LOS ANGELES DURING GRAMMY WEEK TO REHEARSE, PERFORM AND RECORD TOGETHER, OFTEN WITH GRAMMY AWARD-WINNING GUEST ARTISTS AT A SERIES OF HIGH PROFILE GRAMMY WEEK EVENTS. ENSEMBLE MEMBERS ALSO ATTEND THE GRAMMYS. APPROXIMATELY $2 MILLION IN SCHOLARSHIPS HAVE BEEN OFFERED TO ENSEMBLE MEMBERS BY BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC, MANHATTAN SCHOOL OF MUSIC, NEW SCHOOL FOR JAZZ AND CONTEMPORARY MUSIC, THE USC THORNTON SCHOOL OF MUSIC, AND OTHERS. ALUMNI HAVE GONE ON TO SUCCESSFUL MUSIC CAREERS PERFORMING WITH ARTISTS SUCH AS BEYONCE, TERENCE BLANCHARD, CHICK COREA, GAVIN DEGRAW, INDIA ARIE, BRANFORD MARSALIS, WYNTON MARSALIS, AND CHRISTIAN SCOTT, AS WELL AS ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS THE JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER ORCHESTRA AND THE NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC.IN 2015, APPROXIMATELY 500 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS APPLIED TO SUBMIT VIDEO AUDITIONS FOR 30 AVAILABLE POSITIONS: 18-PIECE BIG BAND, 8-VOICE JAZZ CHOIR AND A 4-PIECE JAZZ COMBO. AFTER INITIAL SCREENINGS TO NARROW THE NUMBER, THE TWO ENSEMBLE DIRECTORS CONFER WITH GRAMMY FOUNDATION STAFF TO MAKE FINAL SELECTIONS. CONFERENCE CALLS WITH PARENTS/GUARDIANS PROVIDE GUIDANCE REGARDING STUDENT EXPECTATIONS RELATIVE TO PERFORMANCE AND BEHAVIOR. THE STUDENTS, DIRECTORS, AND CHAPERONES ARRIVED IN LOS ANGELES TEN DAYS PRIOR TO THE GRAMMY AWARDS TELECAST.
