Support for Families with Disabled Children
It is said that one in four babies in Okinawa is low birth weight and the incidence of disabled children is high. Because hospitals cannot provide long-term hospitalization and because Okinawa is a remote island there are no facilities available so even severely handicapped children children with medical care who require ventilators and other medical equipment are forced to receive care at home. The number of children with medical care living at home is increasing year by year due to advances in medical care. Social support is not keeping up and families are under a heavy burden. We believe it is important to prevent isolation increase the number of friends and gain the understanding of society.
