Mission Statement

Founded in 1977, the mission of the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) is to empower survivors by providing trauma-informed services with equity and compassion while working collaboratively with the community to eliminate the root causes of interpersonal abuse. Domestic violence is a pervasive problem in our communities and a full-blown public health crisis in our state, with nearly 1 in 2 Rhode Islanders experiencing domestic violence in their lifetime. The WRC has a long history of providing a full range of compassionate, comprehensive direct services exclusively to survivors of domestic violence. The WRC works with the community to end violence, combining survivor-centered service delivery with evidence-informed prevention strategies. Our programs provide a range of high quality, free services that victims need as they seek safety, including crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy and other supportive services. We remove financial barriers to accessing these services and meet basic needs identified by clients as essential for making positive change toward safety and self-sufficiency for themselves and their children. WRC is a highly knowledgeable leader in our field as well as inclusive and culturally competent. We provide services throughout the East Bay region of Rhode Island including Newport County, Bristol County, and the City of East Providence. WRC is at the forefront of innovative prevention practice. We engage a myriad of governmental and state agencies, organizational partners, and diverse local residents of all ages, races, ethnicities, languages, abilities, and socio-economic backgrounds to ensure that survivors have the free and confidential supports they need while simultaneously working to create healthy, safe communities. WRC is a vital thread in the web of agencies working to address the domestic violence crisis in Rhode Island. We are an active member of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence (RICADV). Their network of member agencies provide comprehensive emergency and support services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual violence, and stalking throughout Rhode Island.
