AI Summary

The Photojournalism Archive is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and displaying the work of photojournalists in an online-only archive, particularly focusing on those who have served as staff photographers for newspapers and other journalistic publications. With an operating budget of $51.8K in its inaugural year, the organization has successfully initiated a partnership with a university, developed a prototype for the archive, and begun digitizing and preserving photographic works. The majority of its funding comes from FRACTURED ATLAS INC, which accounts for a significant portion of its revenue.

Mission Statement

The specific purpose of the Photojournalism Archive is to preserve and display in an online-only archive the work of photojournalists, especially but not exclusively individuals who have worked as staff photographers for newspapers and other journalistic publications, so their work can be studied by the public for educational enrichment. The work of photojournalists, especially those who focus on in-depth stories, is at risk of being lost to history as a result of the rapid decline of newspapers and the fact that most online publications do not archive the images, preserving only the written word. This was our first year as a nonprofit. We have been able to complete the development project, initiate a partnership with a university, develop a prototype for the archive and begin gathering the work of photographers. We have also established systems to digitize and preserve the images that will be in in the archive.
