Refugee Resettlement and Case Management
The core of our mission, the International Institute of New England’s (IINE) resettlement program provides housing, case management, and transitional assistance to help new refugee arrivals build toward self-sufficiency during their first year in the U.S. IINE’s case management services benefit more than 10,000 individuals with humanitarian legal status annually, including refugees; asylees; parolees; adult and child survivors of human trafficking; and unaccompanied children joining family members in New England communities. Services include trauma-informed intake, enrollment in cash assistance and benefits programs based on eligibility, development of an individualized service plan, and connection to services and supports including ESOL classes, employment and job training, school/childcare enrollment for children, and financial literacy development, to reduce barriers and foster their employability and financial stability.GeographiesBoston, MA, USA;Lowell, MA, USA;Manchester, NH, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedBasic and emergency aid,Family services,Job services,Immigrant servicesEconomically disadvantaged people,Immigrants and migrants10K–Adult Education
IINE’s English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes serve more than 1,000 adult immigrants and refugees annually in eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, equipping learners with the knowledge and skills to navigate in their communities, maximize opportunities, and advocate for themselves and their families. The program offers up to 400 hours of instruction year-round, with morning and evening classes to provide flexibility for adult work schedules. Classes are taught entirely in English, using an immersion model. Curriculum objectives for IINE’s six levels of ESOL (Literacy-Level 5) are designed based on established state English language learning standards and student survey input on topics that address their needs and interests. To support maximum access, students are provided with Chromebooks and headphones to facilitate participation in classes that are hybrid or fully remote, and classes integrate the development of digital literacy skills.GeographiesBoston, MA, USA;Lowell, MA, USA;Manchester, NH, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedESL and second language acquisitionImmigrants and migrants1K–Career Services
IINE’s Career Services programs provide a pathway to self-sufficiency for 2,000 refugees and immigrants annually. We serve individuals through an integrated Refugee Employment Services model that combines English language instruction, employment services, industry skills training, and support services coordination. Our employment team helps refugees and immigrant newcomers secure employment, retain their jobs, and upgrade to better-paying positions. IINE also offers specialized vocational training to prepare clients for careers in healthcare, construction, and other industries that offer family-sustaining wages, good benefits, and opportunities for advancement. Career Navigators provide workshops on specific workforce development topics and provide individualized support to help clients access vocational training and take other next steps to succeed beyond the entry level. Additionally, IINE leverages more than two hundred employer partnerships to connect clients to opportunities.GeographiesBoston, MA, USA;Lowell, MA, USA;Manchester, NH, USADatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedEmployment,Job servicesImmigrants and migrants2K–
