Program 1 [2021]
Ballet Programs: Led by Artistic Director, Mikko Nissinen, the Boston Ballet maintains a diverse repertoire, ranging from full-length ballets to new works by some of today's finest choreographers. The Company typically gives over 100 performances at the Citizens Boston Opera House and other performing spaces in Boston, MA during its eight-month season that ends in May of each year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Boston Ballet's 2020-2021 season was delivered entirely through a series of streamed performances in adherence with public health restrictions. Six programs were released to virtual subscribers featuring footage from performances in prior seasons as well as new creations that showcased the company's artistic creativity despite pandemic-necessitated conditions. During this period of reduced operations, the company also experimented with showcasing dance through other digital means, including virtual reality and web-based video platforms. Measures that began in March 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic to significantly reduce operating expenses and raise extraordinary crisis-relief resources continued throughout this entire season, enabling the Ballet to stabilize financially and build up cash reserves to fund an expected multi-year recovery effort. Of note, the Ballet received funding through several federal assistance programs.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2020 – Jun 30, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$9.4MProgram 2 [2021]
Boston Ballet School (BBS): provides a comprehensive dance education with the goal of inspiring, nurturing and sustaining a life-long love of dance in every student. BBS operates two state-of-art dance facilities at Boston Ballet's headquarters in the South End of Boston and in the Metro-West town of Newton. Dance classes for the entire 2020-2021 school year were offered either virtually, or through a hybrid virtual in-person model to reduce space gathering capacities in compliance with COVID-19 safety measures and government ordinances. Several programs are offered to provide educational opportunities to students of all ages and capabilities. The Classical Ballet Program follows a carefully designed curriculum with nine levels of study. It also has a supplemental Summer Dance Workshop and Master Class Series exposing students to different dance concepts and styles in a creative environment. The Children's Program for ages 16 months to 7 years introduces children to the art of dance by promoting the exploration of creativity and expression through movement. Its corresponding summer camps, Ballet Stories and Ballet Journeys introduce students to the wider world of dance. The Adult Dance Program offers a wide range of dance classes and workshops to students of all abilities and experience levels. The BBS Professional Division at Walnut Hill School for the Arts is an audition-only and highly competitive program that provides a rigorous training program preparing students for a professional career with the Boston Ballet, and in the ballet industry. The Summer Dance Program is a 5-week summer intensive training opportunity for students globally, with acceptance to the program by audition-only.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2020 – Jun 30, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$4.1MProgram 3 [2021]
