DEAF EDUCATION PROGRAM - OPERATING UNDER SECTION 4201 OF THE NY STATE EDUCATION LAW, MILL NECK MANOR SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF SERVES over 120 PROFOUNDLY DEAF CHILDREN. CHILDREN BEGIN RECEIVING SERVICES AS SOON AS DEAFNESS IS DIAGNOSED, OFTEN BEFORE AGE ONE. BY THREE YEARS OLD, CHILDREN ATTEND THE PROGRAM FULL-TIME. BENEFITING BY A TOTAL COMMUNICATION PHILOSOPHY, CHILDREN ARE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE USING SPEECH, SIGN LANGUAGE AND OTHER COMMUNICATION FORMS. THE SCHOOL OFFERS A FULL RANGE OF OPPORTUNITIES, INCLUDING AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS, SPORTS TEAMS AND DRIVER EDUCATION. THE SCHOOL IS LICENSED TO AWARD A NYS HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA.DEAF INFANT PROGRAM - OPERATING UNDER SECTION 4204A OF THE NY STATE EDUCATION LAW, MILL NECK MANOR SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF PROVIDES INTENSE SUPPORT TO FAMILIES WHO LEARN THAT THEIR BABIES ARE DEAF OR HEARING IMPAIRED. AS EARLY AS EIGHT MONTHS OF AGE, CHILDREN ACCOMPANIED BY THEIR PARENTS COME TO CAMPUS TWO TIMES A WEEK, THE PURPOSE IS TO CREATE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE CHILD AND THE PARENT. THE SCHOOL ALSO VISITS THE FAMILY HOME EACH WEEK TO SUGGEST WAYS TO IMPROVE COMMUNICATION. OTHER PROGRAMS - Dormitory Authority (DA) 9250 - Expenses relating to projects funded or anticipated to be funded through bonds issued through the New York State Dormitory Authority. Bonds are issued to finance the construction, renovation and equipping of various projects for certain not-for-profit institutions authorized by statute. This program is composed of revenues and expenses associated with Dormitory Authority Projects that are funded or anticipated to be funded with DA bond proceeds. In the case of Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf, this program represents the depreciation costs of the school building which was built utilizing Dormitory Authority funds.CFR-2 programsExtended day services Mill Neck offers extended day services for students outside of the typical school day. Supervised early drop off and aftercare are available to students at an additional tuition fee.Coaching and sports Offered outside of the regular curriculum, after school and/or off-campus, students are able to participate in sports activities and events, sometimes traveling for sports competitions with other schoolsCampus-wide Mill Neck Manor owns several buildings on the 86-acre lot. These buildings are the responsibility of the entity, whether or not they are occupied. SPECIAL EDUCATION PRESCHOOL - OPERATING UNDER SECTION 4410 OF THE NY STATE EDUCATION LAW, MILL NECK MANOR SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF OPERATES A PRESCHOOL PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN AGES 3 & 4 WHO HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH A SPEECH AND/OR LANGUAGE DISABILITY. USING SMALL CLASS RATIOS (UP TO 12 CHILDREN WITH 3 ADULTS supervising), THE LATEST TECHNIQUES ARE UTILIZED TO ENCOURAGE AND PRODUCE IMPROVED SPEECH AND LANGUAGE. CHILDREN RECEIVE INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP THERAPY ALONG WITH OCCUPATIONAL OR PHYSICAL THERAPIES AS NEEDED.
