Primary Stages continues to gain recognition as a center for theater arts education through our Marvin and Anne Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA) and our MFA partnership with Fordham University, training a new generation of playwrights and other theater artists. This year we served over 530 students through classes and workshops taught by a faculty of working theater professionals and provided performance opportunities through our Drills and Detention series. Five years ago, we launched the Fordham/Primary Stages MFA in Playwriting. Through this program we offer emerging writers the opportunity to develop and produce their work in a rigorous university setting while fostering professional relationships with Primary Stages. The 2017/18 program culminated in full productions of each student's work with the support of a professional director. Primary Stages also continued to offer a competitive paid internship program based in the tradition of theater apprenticeship. In 2017/18, Primary Stages worked with 19 interns hailing from varied education institutions including CUNY schools, Fordham University, Columbia University Teachers College, Boston University, and more.
