SEE SCHEDULE OBLUE COLLAR PREP: BLUE COLLAR PREP IS A SEVEN-WEEK PREAPPRENTICESHIP TRAINING PROGRAM FOR UNDEREMPLOYED AND UNEMPLOYED WOMEN. THE TRAINING PROGRAM, HELD FIVE DAYS A WEEK FROM 8 AM TO 4 PM, IS AN INTENSE PROGRAM FOR A COHORT OF 25 STUDENTS. NEW CLASSES START EVERY FOUR TO SIX WEEKS AND ARE OFFERED AT NO COST TO ALL STUDENTS. STUDENTS ARE PROVIDED WITH METROCARDS FOR TRAVEL TO AND FROM CLASS. SEE SCHEDULE OJOB PLACEMENT: NEW'S TRAINING PREPARES WOMEN FOR UNION APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS, AS WELL AS CAREERS IN TRANSPORTATION, UTILITIES, AND BUILDING OPERATIONS. NEW'S GRADUATION CERTIFICATE IS RECOGNIZED BY THE NEW YORK CITY BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION TRADES APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS AND NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR FOR DIRECT ENTRY INTO UNION APPRENTICESHIPS. AFTER COMPLETING THE PROGRAM, NEW WORKS WITH GRADUATES TO PLACE THEM WITH EMPLOYERS IN CONSTRUCTION RELATED WORK.NEW ACTIVELY PROVIDES CAREER PLACEMENT SERVICES TO GRADUATES THROUGH ONE-ON-ONE EMPLOYMENT CONSULTATION, WORKSHOPS, AND INTERVIEW PREPARATION. NEW STAFF MEMBERS WORK WITH EACH STUDENT THROUGHOUT TRAINING TO HELP THE STUDENT SELECT AND PURSUE CAREER CHOICES. WORKING ALONGSIDE PROGRAM COORDINATORS, EMPLOYMENT STAFF MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN MID-TERM EVALUATION AND FINAL EXIT EVALUATIONS TO ENSURE EACH STUDENT UNDERSTANDS HER CAREER OPTIONS, EVALUATES HER SKILLS AND ABILITY TO SUCCEED, AND SELECTS THE CAREER WHERE SHE IS BEST SUITED AND WILL EXCEL. NEW PROVIDES ASSISTANCE FOR DRIVING COURSES AND OTHER TRAININGS REQUIRED FOR EMPLOYMENT THAT MAY PRESENT FINANCIAL BARRIERS FOR GRADUATES. MANY NEW GRADUATES ARE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE APTITUDE TEST PREPARATION PROGRAM THAT PREPARES GRADUATES FOR CHALLENGING ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS IN TRADES INCLUDING ELECTRICIAN, ELEVATOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR, CON EDISON, AND SHEET METAL WORKER.IN ADDITION TO LONG-TERM CAREER PLANNING, IMMEDIATELY AFTER COMPLETING TRAINING, NEW WORKS WITH GRADUATES TO SECURE PLACEMENTS IN INTERIM JOBS AS THEY PREPARE FOR A LONG-TERM CAREER OPPORTUNITY.
