Organizational EffectivenessImpact and its supporting organization, Achievements Unlimited Foundation (collectively the "Foundations"), recognize that many nonprofit organizations often lack the expertise and financial resources to invest in organizational assessments, strategic planning and highly effective fundraising training to ensure their organization's effectiveness and long-term sustainability. The Foundations partnered with Dakota Medical Foundation, an unrelated nonprofit organization, through the Impact Institute (Institute) to provide support, education, training, and coaching sessions for nonprofit partner organizations. Since inception in 2005, the institute has trained nonprofit executives and directors from over 500 nonprofit organizations in Institute leadership and fundraising concepts.Nonprofit Board and Management Training: Training boards and key management personnel to operate their organizations in a highly effective and efficient manner is a key education focus for the Foundations. Having encouraged many area nonprofit organizations to attend the Institute's education and training programs, in 2020, the Institute helped readily-equip 500 charitable organizations to solve complex community challenges. With a particular emphasis in fundraising, many charities continued their professional development in a fundraising curriculum and coaching program called High Impact Fundraising. This program was developed to build a mastery of fundraising and leadership. As a result of participating in fundraising training, a study of 21 nonprofit organizations showed community support on Giving Hearts Day increased over a twelve-year period form $353,000 in donations in 2008 to $2.5 million in donations in 2020.Grant Writing Services: Since 2005, the Foundations have supported grant writing assistance for health-related nonprofit organizations to generate additional financial resources for their programs. Since the formal addition of grant writing assistance, the Foundations and other regional nonprofit organizations have secured over $28.9 million in grant funding.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$637.3KProgram 2 [2020]
Economic DevelopmentThe Foundations support the economic development of North Dakota communities by initiating and funding various initiatives directed at assisting small businesses located in North Dakota. In 2007, Impact entered into a 30-year, $750,000 loan commitment with the USDA Office of Rural Development under its Intermediary Relending Loan Program (IRP). Impact committed an equity contribution of $187,500, equaling a total loan pool of $937,500, available to qualifying North Dakota businesses at low interest rates. Dakota Business Lending (DBL), formerly Dakota Certified Development Corporation, provided a grant to Impact to meet the equity requirement under the terms of the USDA loan. DBL manages the day-to-day operations of the IRP under an agreement with Impact.Since inception, Impact has provided ten (10) loans to small businesses in rural communities, equaling more than $1,166,942. Community SupportImpact provides grants to support community events, statewide nonprofit organizations and other societal improvement initiatives. Grants were provided for these purposes from established Impact charitable funds, other grants, and donor contributions received by the Foundations. Impact provided funding to restock the food shelter at Great Plains Food Bank through the support of the Fargo-based Fill-the-Dome program. The Foundations have given back to North Dakota communities impacted by natural disasters and are ready to help coordinate and provide financial support of fundraising efforts when needed. In an effort to reduce the financial burden to charities purchasing PPE, our team distributed more than 27,000 masks and more than 250 bottles of hand sanitizer to charities and organizations across the region, regardless of any prior relationship with Impact. Of the 27,000-plus masks, 13,000 were distributed to the North Dakota Bureau of Indian Affairs to provide to tribal areas where they were most needed within the state. The COVID-19 Response Fund created alongside Dakota Medical Foundation and the Alex Stern Family Foundation rapidly issued grants to more than 70 critical service charities across North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota worth nearly $500,000. Charities were identified through our existing charity network of nearly 500 charities, as well as through regional partners that helped us identify charities outside of our network. Impact also established and maintains a Clubs for Kids Initiative, which promotes community youth golf programs by providing equipment and playing opportunities to those unable to afford the cost of participation. When aligned with its mission, Impact provides Fiscal Sponsor Projects (FSP) to community groups and individuals desiring to obtain financial or other support for their charitable projects through grants, or in order to receive tax-deductible donations from individuals and other contributors through the sponsor. FSP arrangements may range from a project or an organization included completely under Impact's 501(c)(3) umbrella to assistance to an organization establishing their own separate 501(c)(3) organization.Women's Impact (FSP) creates opportunities for women to connect while empowering each other to make a positive impact in their lives, families and communities. Their Facebook page (www.facebook.com/womensimpact) is an inspiring and supportive online community for women to connect and make an impact in each other's lives.Financial Literacy Initiative (FSP), established in 2017, provides financial literacy training to those who may not otherwise have access to such information. Promoting financial literacy through education regarding budgeting, home buying, insurance, investing, retirement planning and estate planning.Badges of Unity (FSP) works to unite all community members, build trusting relationships with at-risk youth, and partner with others to ensure a bright future for all. By working to strengthen current programs and connecting youth to after-school activities in their neighborhood, new non-traditional, after-school activities have been developed. These activities include a 6-week academy for youth to job shadow police officers and hosting "Fargo United" events in local parks with food, music and positive interactions with law enforcement. Par 4 Youth Golf (FSP) supports the PGA Junior League Golf by providing playing opportunities, equipment, and financial assistance to benefit those in need. Innovative ND Education (FSP) transforms the education of ND children K-12 by promoting creative, innovative, learner-centered schooling. Red River Market (FSP) organizes a weekly farmers' market in downtown Fargo to engage the community and provide entertainment, education, and healthy eating options. This project will be seeking its own 501(c)(3) status in the future. Sinner Bresnahan Healthy Kids Initiative (FSP) is a "grass-roots" program formed for the purposes of engaging the youth of Casselton, North Dakota, toward positive social relationships.Excite Music (FSP) supports a mission to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn and experience music, regardless of economic status. Excite Music offers student participants a variety of different ways to engage with music through free after-school music lessons and opportunity to attend local music schools.Additional Community Support:LevelUp Fargo is a community collaborative movement (Coalition) with a dynamic and significant group of key stakeholders that engage members across numerous sectors to address the need to reduce youth substance abuse. The Coalition was formed in August 2015, and a grant application was submitted to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in March 2016. On August 31, 2016, LevelUp Fargo was awarded a 5-year, $625,000 grant from SAMHSA ($125,000 a year for five years) with the opportunity to apply for five additional years at $125,000 per year. The Coalition submitted a 12-Month Action Plan to SAMHSA, which was approved and implemented. With the help of a marketing firm, LevelUp Fargo and Fargo Public Schools created a survey instrument administered to grades 6-12 to all Fargo Public Schools, Oak Grove Lutheran School, and JP II Catholic Schools. This survey, which is administered bi-annually, identifies current mental health needs, substance use trends, and provides a social capital index used to improve connectedness for Fargo youth. These results are then compiled into an actionable report and disseminated throughout the Fargo community.During 2020, Impact provided accounting support to the Red River Children's Advocacy Center (RRCAC) including processing weekly accounts payables, biweekly payroll management, general ledger and periodic financial statements, and coordinating the preparation of their annual Form 990.A veteran emergency charitable fund called Support Our Veterans (SOV), was established at Impact to receive charitable contributions from donors and to support the emergent needs of North Dakota veterans and their eligible dependents who are not covered under current federal or state programs. Since inception, the fund has generated over $409,112 in contributions and provided assistance to over 344 qualified veteran families.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$1.2M
