WE ARE SUPPORTED BY ANNUAL APPROPRIATIONS FROM THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES, AS WELL AS CONTRIBUTIONS FROM PRIVATE SOURCES. THE STATE HUMANITIES COUNCILS ARE A UNIQUE PROGRAM ESTABLISHED BY CONGRESSIONAL MANDATE; THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT AWARDS ANNUAL OPERATING GRANTS TO EACH OF THE 56 STATE AND TERRITORIAL COUNCILS.
