La Casa Guadalupana Tutoring Program
The La Casa Guadalupana Tutoring Program serves 40 students in grades 1 through 8. The program offers in-person and online one-on-one tutoring in math and reading with special attention for ESL needs. Online program started in response to the COVID pandemic and has continued due to interest from enrolled families. The tutoring program runs during the school year, September through May. Two sessions of tutoring, one hour each, are offered Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after school. Students can sign up for one, two or three sessions, with most students attending twice a week. La Casa Guadalupana also runs a two-week summer program, with additional academic and enrichment opportunities. The program hosts two community events, one at the end of the calendar year and one at the end of the school year - inviting students, tutors, and families to share a meal, celebrate student progress, and build relationships. Volunteers are shown appreciation with a stipend and a dinner in their honor. Students are assessed at the beginning of the school year in reading and math by the Program Manager, who uses the results to develop an individualized learning plan. Each student works one-on-one with a volunteer tutor, who uses the learning plan to guide progress, and the plan is adjusted as students improve or need additional assistance. Students typically work on sight words, phonics, writing mechanics, fluency, arithmetic, math facts, and problem solving. Students also practice skills using online learning platforms and can request homework help. Student scholarships through the Becas Program are awarded for those students who successfully graduate.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2021 – Jun 30, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$4.5KAdult ESL Health & Safety Training
