Elkhart General Hospital, Inc. has been providing comprehensive, advanced medical care primarily to Elkhart County and other contiguous counties in north central Indiana and south central Michigan for over 100 years. Elkhart General Hospital, Inc. consists of a 365-bed licensed hospital that provides services without regard to patient race, religion, national origin, economic status, or ability to pay. During 2020, the Hospital admitted 9,678 patients for a total of 48,641 inpatient days. Inpatient units consisted of medical, post-surgical, oncology, pediatric, critical care, cardiac care, behavioral health, rehabilitation, obstetric, and nursery intensive care. The Hospital also provided 3,222 outpatient surgeries, 44,3667 emergency room visits, and 53,171 Ancillary Services.During 2020, the unreimbursed cost of free or discounted medical care provided to patients that were deemed indigent under state, county, or internal guidelines was $1,205,734. Elkhart General Hospital also provided $34,759,544 in unreimbursed care to the elderly covered by Medicare, and $3,321,179 in Financial Assistance. Part of the mission of Elkhart General Hospital is to provide for a healthier community through medication assistance programs and community health education.
