ZAKAT:In accordance with Islamic principles, Muslims are obligated to give annual charitable contributions (Zakat) to support those in need, based on income thresholds established under Islamic guidelines. CIOGC collects these charitable donations from the community and distributes them to economically disadvantaged individuals and to Muslim organizations providing direct services to economically disadvantage individuals, or allocates donated funds for other approved religious and charitable purposes.CIVIC EDUCATION ENGAGEMENTS:Civic engagement is a vital part of the Councils mission to educate its membership and the broader Muslim community about the rights and responsibilities of citizens in the United States and to promote active involvement in civic engagement related activities. These objectives reflect the practical application of the Islamic value of pursuing justice in civic setting. Our civic efforts include initiatives such as mentorships with public officials for high school students, voter registration drives, town hall meetings, and collaborative efforts with community organizations to offer social services, and educating the publicon key issues and policies that can lead to meaningful community improvements.
