THIS SYSTEM HELPS RESIDENTS FIND NEW JOBS, RETAIN EMPLOYMENT, AND ADVANCE THEIR SKILLS. ALSO, SERVICES ARE PROVIDED TO EMPLOYERS TO HELP THEM MEET EMPLOYMENT NEEDS. THE WORKFORCE SYSTEM IN THE CITY IS OVERSEEN BY THE MAYOR'S WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD (MWDB). DESC IS THE ADMINISTRATIVE AND FISCAL AGENT FOR THE MWBD. THE BOARD'S STRATEGIC VISION IS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE REVITALIZATION OF DETROIT BY CREATING A DEMAND-DRIVEN WORKFORCE SYSTEM THAT ENABLES CITIZENS TO ACQUIRE THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS THAT LEAD TO FAMILY-SUSTAINING EMPLOYMENT, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME PROVIDING EMPLOYERS WITH THE SKILLED WORKFORCE THEY NEED TO COMPETE GLOBALLY. THE BOARD'S GOAL IS TO GROW EMPLOYMENT OF DETROITERS BY 40,000 OVER 5 YEARS.
