Whole Family Approach Services
SINCE JANUARY 2018, MAHUBE-OTWA HAS BEEN TRANSFORMING OUR SERVICE DELIVERY MODEL TO A WHOLE FAMILY APPROACH, WITH A FOCUS ON EQUITY AND SHAPED BY THE VOICES AND EXPERIENCES OF THE FAMILIES WE SERVE TO CREATE UPWARD MOBILITY FOR MULTIPLE GENERATIONS OF A FAMILY. FAMILIES (INCLUDING INDIVIDUALS, YOUTH, SENIORS) CAN ENTER AT ANY OF THE FIVE LEVELS AND WE WORK WITH THEM TO MOVE UP TO THE NEXT LEVEL AND SHORE UP PROTECTIONS AGAINST BACKSLIDING:LEVEL 1 (SAFETY) 115 HOUSEHOLDS WERE SERVED BY EMERGENCY SHELTER, OF THOSE 46% WENT INTO PERMANENT HOUSING, 27% INTO TEMPORARY HOUSING, AND 5% INTO INSTITUTIONAL SETTINGS.LEVEL 2 (BENEFITS) 12,435 PEOPLE RECEIVED ENERGY ASSISTANCE; 264 DIRECT RENTAL ASSISTANCE (AND 682 WITH RENTAL ASSISTANCE THROUGH RENTHELPMN); 521 CHILDREN RECEIVED COMPREHENSIVE HEAD START SERVICES.LEVEL 3 (RELATIONSHIP-BASED COACHING) 367 FAMILIES CREATED GOAL-ORIENTED ACTION PLANS WITH A TRAINED UPWARD MOBILITY COACH.LEVEL 4 (ASSET-BUILDING) 69 FAMILIES RECEIVED FINANCIAL COACHING; 371 REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH CARE COUNSELING; 98 SENIORS RECEIVED HOMEMAKING AND CHORE SERVICES TO STAY IN THEIR HOMES; 429 HOUSEHOLDS HAD IMPROVED ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN THEIR HOMES; 2,030 INDIVIDUALS SERVED BY THE TAX AID PROGRAM.LEVEL 5 (LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT / VOLUNTEERISM) WE SUPPORTED LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT OF 18 LOW-INCOME PARENTS AND YOUTH IN SERVING THEIR COMMUNITY ON ADVISORY BOARDS AND KEPT 463 SENIORS ACTIVE IN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES.WHILE WORKING HARD TO MOVE PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY, MAHUBE-OTWA ALSO STRIVED FOR CONTINUOUS QUALITY IMPROVEMENT. WE EMPLOYED A FULL-TIME TRIBAL LIAISON TO HELP BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE THREE TRIBAL COMMUNITIES IN OUR SERVICE AREA, PARTNERED WITH UNIVERSITY OF MN EXTENSION ON A YEAR-LONG NUTRITION PROGRAM FOR HEAD START CHILDREN, THREE STAFF BECAME CERTIFIED INTERCULTURAL DEVELOPMENT INVENTORY QUALIFIED ADMINISTRATORS, TWO STAFF COMPLETED THE COMMUNITY ACTION LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE, ONE STAFF WAS RECOGNIZED NATIONALLY FOR BECOMING A CERTIFIED COMMUNITY ACTION PROFESSIONAL. MAHUBE-OTWA STAFF RECEIVED RECOGNITION FOR OUTSTANDING WORK: THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RECEIVED NATIONAL RECOGNITION FROM WIPFLI WITH THE EVELYN WRIGHT MOORE AWARD FOR INNOVATION EXCELLENCE, THE HEAD START PROGRAM RECEIVED PERFECT SCORES ON ITS COMPREHENSIVE FEDERAL REVIEW, THE HOUSING PROGRAMS STATE RECOGNITION FOR DATA QUALITY, THE ORGANIZATION WAS AWARDED A $1.8 MILLION GRANT TO BUILD ON ITS WHOLE FAMILY APPROACH WITH A FOCUS ON ENHANCING ITS TRAUMA-INFORMED SERVICE DELIVERY MODEL.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesOct 1, 2021 – Sep 30, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$16.9M
