SAFETY SERVICES HELPED PEOPLE STAY SAFE.1) CRISIS SERVICES: 916 ADULTS IMPACTED BY DOMESTIC/SEXUAL VIOLENCE RECEIVED CRISIS SERVICES; 96% SURVEYED FELT SAFER. CLIENTS SERVED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT INCREASED 28%, WITH 162 ADULTS SERVED. 126 ADULTS CALLING 911 FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE WERE ASSESSED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT AS HAVING A HIGH LETHALITY RISK. OUR ADVOCATES SPOKE BY PHONE WITH 100 RIGHT AT THE SCENE; 42 WERE FIRST-TIME CLIENTS TO CVIC, PERHAPS UNDERSTANDING FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT HELP IS AVAILABLE TO KEEP THEM SAFE. 2) STABILITY SERVICES: MANY CLIENTS WERE ON THE BRINK OF HOMELESSNESS; WE HELPED 242 ON 1,041 OCCASIONS WITH RENT, FOOD AND OTHER EMERGENCY NEEDS. 14 FAMILIES WITH 28 CHILDREN RECEIVED TRANSITIONAL HOUSING/RENTAL ASSISTANCE. 83 WERE ASSISTED IN TAKING STEPS TO SECURE JOBS OR EDUCATION, AND 180 WERE HELPED WITH HOUSING NEEDS. "THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS BEING THERE." CVIC CLIENT.3) SHELTER SERVICES: 112 ADULTS AND CHILDREN WERE SHELTERED, WITH 13,758 MEALS SERVED. FAMILIES CONTINUED TO STAY MORE NIGHTS BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T AFFORD TO LEAVE, UP 116% OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS. THIS WAS A BLESSING IN DISGUISE, AS THE LONGER STAYS SET FAMILIES UP FOR SUCCESS. PARENTS AND YOUTH HAD TIME AND SPACE TO HEAL, AND PARENTS TOOK SIGNIFICANT STEPS TOWARD SECURING A JOB, ASSESSING THEIR BUDGET AND FINDING AN APARTMENT THEY COULD AFFORD. KIRA'S* MOM WAS AMAZED WHEN KIRA BEGAN TO SMILE AGAIN AT SHELTER. SHE USED TO WORRY ALL THE TIME ABOUT HER DAD'S VIOLENCE. NOW, SHE WAS HAPPY! KIRA LOVED THE "WORRY-FREE MONSTER" SHE MADE WITH OUR ADVOCATE BECAUSE NOW SHE COULD TELL THE MONSTER THE THINGS THAT BOTHER HER, AND THE MONSTER WOULD EAT UP ALL HER WORRIES. (*NAME CHANGED.)4) SAFE CHILD VISITS AND EXCHANGES: 1,232 IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL SAFE VISITS AND 394 EXCHANGES WERE PROVIDED FOR 446 KIDS AND ADULTS. OF CLIENTS SURVEYED, 95% OF ADULTS AND 97% OF KIDS SAID THEY WERE SAFE IN OUR PROGRAM. -EVA* AND HER MOM COULDN'T LIVE WITH EVA'S DAD BECAUSE HE HURT HER MOM. BUT EVA STILL WANTED TO SEE HIM, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS STRESSFUL WHEN THEY'D MEET TO EXCHANGE HER. "IN THE PAST WHEN WE DIDN'T HAVE A NEUTRAL LOCATION, THERE WAS A CONSTANT TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE, ENDING UP WITH ME BEING YELLED AT, THREATENED OR ASSAULTED," EVA'S MOM SAID. AND EVA WOULD CHEW HER NAILS TO THE POINT THEY WOULD BLEED. NOW AT CVIC, "SHE READILY GETS OUT OF THE VEHICLE, SHE'S HAPPY, SHE'S SKIPPING, SHE'S JUMPING. THAT HAS REDUCED A LOT OF ANXIETY AND FEAR. I ALWAYS KNOW WHEN I GO THERE, THAT IT'S A SAFE PLACE, AS CVIC PREVENTS ANY CONTACT BETWEEN PARENTS. I NEVER FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE," EVA'S MOM SAID. "THAT IS A HUGE THING THAT TOUCHES MY HEART BECAUSE IT'S NOT OFTEN ... WE HAVE THAT SUPPORT AS A FAMILY. THE PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT THESE SERVICES, TO ALLOW IT TO BE AT NO COST, SHOULD FEEL FAR BEYOND SPECIAL," SHE SAID. "THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. I DON'T HAVE WORDS TO DESCRIBE WHAT YOU'VE DONE FOR OUR FAMILY." (*NAME AND MINOR DETAILS CHANGED.)5) CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM ADVOCACY: 1,043 PEOPLE WERE PROVIDED ADVOCACY, CASE INFORMATION AND SUPPORT. MOST SERVICES WERE PROVIDED VIRTUALLY OR BY PHONE, WITH SOME WITNESS PREPARATION CONDUCTED AT THE COURTHOUSE. 98% OF THOSE SURVEYED SAID THEY WERE KEPT WELL INFORMED OF THEIR CASE STATUS. CLIENTS CONTINUED TO STRUGGLE WITH MENTAL HEALTH CONCERNS AGGRAVATED BY THE CRIME.6) VIOLENCE INTERVENTION: 196 ADULTS USING VIOLENCE WERE SERVED, MOST BY ZOOM, 76 (60 MEN, 16 WOMEN) COMPLETED THE PROGRAM. WE REACHED 127 PARTNERS OF GROUP CLIENTS TO PROVIDE UPDATES AND TO OFFER SERVICES THAT ENHANCE SAFETY. "IT IS NEVER MY INTENTION TO CAUSE HURT OR PAIN TO ANYONE, SO I MUST BE WILLING TO LISTEN TO UNDERSTAND AND MAKE APPROPRIATE COMPROMISES. AFTER THIS CLASS, I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT I TAKE FULL ACCOUNTABILITY FOR WHAT I'VE DONE." HEALING SERVICES HELPED TRAUMATIZED PEOPLE TO HEAL. 1) THERAPY & SUPPORT: 207 CHILDREN AND TEENS IMPACTED BY CHILD ABUSE, DOMESTIC/DATING/SEXUAL VIOLENCE AND RELATED ABUSE RECEIVED INDIVIDUAL/GROUP THERAPY, ADVOCACY AND SUPPORT TO STAY SAFE AND OVERCOME TRAUMA (66 RECEIVED THERAPY ONLY). 91% OF YOUTH/PARENTS SURVEYED REPORTED IMPROVED EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING. 104 ADULTS IMPACTED BY DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE RECEIVED THERAPY, WITH 100% SURVEYED REPORTING IMPROVEMENT. OUR LOCAL TEENS HAVE STRUGGLED MORE THAN EVER THIS YEAR AS THE PANDEMIC'S FORCED ISOLATION HAS INCREASED THEIR ANXIETY AND SUICIDAL THOUGHTS. THAT'S WHY WE WERE SO GLAD WHEN MOLLY'S* MOM BROUGHT HER DAUGHTER TO CVIC AFTER SHE HAD BEEN SEXUALLY ASSAULTED. JUST 14 YEARS OLD, MOLLY WAS WEIGHED DOWN WITH SELF-BLAME AND CONFUSION ABOUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO HER. AT FIRST, SHE DIDN'T WANT HER MOM TO LEAVE HER SIDE, SO WE WORKED WITH BOTH MOLLY AND HER MOM. BUT SOON MOLLY TOLD HER MOM SHE COULD START SEEING OUR THERAPIST BY HERSELF. USING EVIDENCE-BASED INTERVENTIONS, WE HELPED MOLLY BEGIN TO PROCESS THE TRAUMA AND UNDERSTAND SHE WAS NOT TO BLAME. IT HAS BEEN A BEAUTIFUL THING TO WATCH MOLLY GROW IN SELF-ACCEPTANCE, RESILIENCE AND SELF-CONFIDENCE. IN THE COMING MONTHS, WE HAVE NO DOUBT THAT MOLLY WILL CONTINUE HER REMARKABLE PROGRESS TOWARD HEALING. (* NAME CHANGED.) "MY THERAPIST HELPED ME FIND WHO I AM AS A PERSON." EDUCATION SERVICES EDUCATED CHILDREN AND THE COMMUNITY THROUGH 344 PRESENTATIONS TO 3,037 YOUTH, 3,359 ADULTS AND 1,072 PROFESSIONALS.1) YOUTH EDUCATION: 3,037 CHILDREN/YOUTH WERE PROVIDED 251 HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP PRESENTATIONS. SCHOOLS WERE GRATEFUL THAT WE WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE EDUCATION VIRTUALLY, AND STUDENTS WERE ACTIVE IN THE CONVERSATION, USING THE CHAT FEATURE TO ASK QUESTIONS. THE INTENSE TEACHER WORKLOAD DURING THE PANDEMIC, HOWEVER, CAUSED A DELAY IN SCHEDULING PRESENTATIONS. 85% OF YOUTH SURVEYED SHOWED AN INCREASE IN KNOWLEDGE, AND 80% SAID THEY PLANNED TO USE THE INFORMATION LEARNED IN THEIR DAILY LIFE. "CVIC DOES A GREAT JOB OF ADAPTING TO NEW TRENDS OR TECHNOLOGY, SO THE MATERIAL IS RELEVANT AND ENGAGING. OUR HEALTH STUDENTS ENJOY THE PRESENTATIONS YEAR AFTER YEAR. HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER.2) ADULT EDUCATION: 3,359 ADULTS AND UND STUDENTS WERE PROVIDED 49 EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS. 95% OF THOSE SURVEYED INDICATED INCREASED AWARENESS OF ISSUES AND SERVICES, AND 84% SAID THEY PLANNED TO USE INFORMATION LEARNED IN THEIR DAILY LIFE.3) ADULT TRAINING: 1,072 PROFESSIONALS WERE PROVIDED 44 TRAININGS ON BEST PRACTICES. REQUESTS FOR TRAINING WERE DOWN THIS YEAR, AS COVID-19 IMPACTED MANY ORGANIZATIONS. 98% OF THOSE SURVEYED SAID THEY LEARNED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS THAT WILL ASSIST THEM IN THEIR WORK, AND 97% SAID THEY PLANNED TO USE THE KNOWLEDGE AT WORK. MOST TRAININGS WERE HELD VIRTUALLY, INCLUDING OUR ANNUAL TRAINING FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT, THIS YEAR FOCUSING ON COMPASSION FATIGUE AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.4) GREEN DOT: CVIC AND KEY PARTNERS, ALTRU HEALTH SYSTEM AND GATE CITY BANK, ADVANCED GREEN DOT ACROSS THE COMMUNITY IN 2020. 134 PEOPLE WERE TRAINED ON THIS EVIDENCE-BASED BYSTANDER INTERVENTION PROGRAM, INCLUDING TWO NEW CERTIFIED INSTRUCTORS. THE GREEN DOT NEWSLETTER WAS CREATED, WITH A LISTSERVE OF 100+; OUR COMMUNITY RUN HAD 100 ENTRANTS; AND A SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN PROVIDED VIOLENCE PREVENTION EDUCATION AND WAYS TO GET INVOLVED.
