AmeriCorps Promise Fellowship Program
IN 2021/22, 113 AMERICORPS PROMISE FELLOWS SERVING STATEWIDE DEVOTED A TERM OF SERVICE TO CLOSING THE OPPORTUNITY GAP IN MINNESOTA BY PROVIDING EVIDENCE-BASED SUPPORTS TO YOUNG PEOPLE ACROSS URBAN, SUBURBAN, AND RURAL COMMUNITIES. PROMISE FELLOWS INCREASE THE CAPACITY OF SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS BY USING AN ARRAY OF DATA-DRIVEN STRATEGIES; TRACKING ATTENDANCE AND WORK COMPLETION, MONITORING STUDENT ENGAGEMENT, AND SUPPORTING ACADEMIC GROWTH THROUGH CARING ADULT INTERVENTIONS, SERVICE AND SERVICE-LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND OUT-OF-SCHOOL-TIME SUPPORTS. DURING THE 2021/22 PROGRAM YEAR, 2,319 STUDENTS RECEIVED SUPPORT FROM AN AMERICORPS PROMISE FELLOW THROUGH INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP SUPPORTS. 618 STUDENTS SHOWED IMPROVEMENT IN ATTENDANCE, TARDINESS, STUDENT ENGAGEMENT INSTRUMENT SCORE, OR WORK COMPLETION. ADDITIONALLY, 13 AMERICORPS VISTA MEMBERS SERVED AT NONPROFIT AND EDUCATION PARTNER HOST SITES TO STRENGTHEN AND CONNECT RESOURCES AND BEST PRACTICES TO BETTER SERVE YOUTH, ESPECIALLY YOUNG PEOPLE OF COLOR AND YOUTH LIVING IN POVERTY. MINNESOTA YOUTH COUNCIL: THE MINNESOTA YOUTH COUNCIL IS A DIVERSE NETWORK OF THIRTY-SIX 8TH-12TH GRADERS REPRESENTING EACH MINNESOTA CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT. THE COUNCIL MOBILIZED MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ACROSS THE STATE TO CREATE EQUITABLE SYSTEMS THROUGH YOUTH-LED OUTREACH, EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY EFFORTS. For the year ended August 31, 2025, 95 AmeriCorps Promise Fellows devoted a term of service responding to the chronic attendance crisis in Minnesota by providing evidence-based support to young people across urban, suburban, and rural communities. Promise Fellows increases the capacity of schools and community organizations by using an array of research-based strategies; tracking attendance and work completion, monitoring student engagement, and supporting academic growth through caring adult interventions, service and service-learning opportunities, and out-of-school- time supports. During the program year, 2064 students were served by Promise Fellows, with 60% of the students achieving increased school attendance. 23 organizations received capacity building services from our Groundwork Fellow program, an AmeriCorps program providing indirect service and support to youth development nonprofits and local government units.
