Program 1 [2020]
Natural Assets of Native American Tribes - provided ongoing technical support and input to the Indian Land Tenure Foundation in their project to support Native American tribal access to carbon markets. Specific work includes developing online mapping tools for tribes and quantifying the carbon benefits of agricultural and rangeland management activities on tribal lands. SIG-NAL continued a project to support the development of an ecosystem services market project for an Alaska Native Village (Akiachak). Specific work included mapping of natural assets and the design and analysis of a woodland inventory for the native village and surrounding areas. A new project was started to support the quantification of the carbon benefits of ecological restoration on native lands on the island of Lanai in Hawaii.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$21.8KProgram 2 [2020]
Green Economy Scientific Foundation - SIG-NAL is partnering with USAID/RDMA, USFS, and UN FAO to examine the carbon pools, both sinks and sources, on lands that have likely had a loss of forest cover and simultaneous replacement by agricultural land uses. We are inventorying land uses in regions experiencing loss of forest cover and summarizing local carbon budgets associated with the identified predominant agricultural commodity production systems.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$135.6KProgram 3 [2020]
Community Wildfire Resilience: SIG-NAL began a new project funded by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to design and pilot a "regional wildfire mitigation program" for Santa Barbara County in California.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$10K
