ELEVATE YOUTH CALIFORNIAIN SEPTEMBER 2019, THE CENTER BEGAN A PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH CARE SERVICES TO DEVELOP A STATEWIDE PROGRAM TO PREVENT AND/OR REDUCE SUBSTANCE USE FOR YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS AGES 12 TO 26 IN COMMUNITIES DISPROPORTIONATELY IMPACTED BY THE WAR ON DRUGS. ELEVATE YOUTH CALIFORNIA AWARDED $21.5 MILLION IN PROPOSITION 64 FUNDS TO SUPPORT 26 ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS THE STATE IN ROUND 1 IN MARCH 2020. IN MAY 2020, THE CENTER WAS SELECTED TO BE THE ROUND 2 ADMINISTRATOR AND AWARDED AN ADDITIONAL $29.7 MILLION TO 32 ORGANIZATIONS IN NOVEMBER 2020. THE COMBINED 58 FUNDED PARTNERS FROM ROUNDS 1 AND 2 SERVE BLACK, INDIGENOUS AND OTHER YOUTH OF COLOR, YOUTH EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS, LGBTQ2S+ YOUTH, IMMIGRANT YOUTH, FOSTER YOUTH AND SYSTEM-INVOLVED YOUTH. THE FUNDED PARTNERS SEEK TO EMPOWER YOUTH TO CREATE POLICY, SYSTEMS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE THROUGH YOUTH-LED, TRAUMA-INFORMED, CULTURALLY AND LINGUISTICALLY RESPONSIVE PROGRAMS. MAT ACCESS POINTS PROJECTTHE GOAL OF THE MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT ACCESS POINTS PROJECT IS TO FUND A NETWORK OF ORGANIZATIONS THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA TO ADDRESS THE OPIOID AND STIMULANT USE CRISES BY SUPPORTING PREVENTION, EDUCATION, STIGMA REDUCTION, TREATMENT AND RECOVERY SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH OPIOID USE DISORDER AND SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER, AND BY INCREASING ACCESS TO MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT. MOST OF THE PROJECTS IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT ACCESS POINTS PROJECT WRAPPED UP IN 2020. HOWEVER, AN ADDITIONAL FUNDING OPPORTUNITY FOR COVID-19 RESPONSE WAS RELEASED IN 2020 AND THAT FUNDED WORK WILL FINISH IN 2021. COVID-19 PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGNIN SEPTEMBER 2020, THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AND THE CENTER ANNOUNCED THE LAUNCH OF THE SECOND PHASE OF YOUR ACTIONS SAVE LIVES, A MULTI-MILLION PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN FOCUSED ON THE NEEDS OF COMMUNITIES EXPERIENCING DISPROPORTIONATE IMPACTS OF COVID-19. THE PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN USES CURRENT PUBLIC HEALTH DATA TO PRIORITIZE IMPACTED COMMUNITIES AND BUILDS ON THE FIRST PHASE OF THE CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED BY THE STATE IN MARCH 2020. THE CAMPAIGN INCLUDES RAPID DEPLOYMENT OF MESSAGING TO ENCOURAGE CALIFORNIANS TO FOLLOW PUBLIC HEALTH SAFETY MEASURES TO KEEP THEM AND OTHERS SAFE AND PREVENT THE SPREAD OF THE VIRUS, AS WELL AS TO PROMOTE PROGRAMS AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT. THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AND THE CENTER SELECTED SACRAMENTO-BASED RUNYON SALTZMAN, INC., A FULL-SERVICE COMMUNICATIONS FIRM, TO SUPPORT THE CAMPAIGN AFTER A RIGOROUS APPLICANT REVIEW AND SELECTION PROCESS THAT INCLUDED A PANEL COMPRISED OF COMMUNITY EXPERTS IN HEALTH AND RACIAL EQUITY AND LARGE-SCALE PUBLIC HEALTH CAMPAIGNS.
