Program 1 [2021]
We provide registration costs equipment uniforms transportation trained certified coaches and infrastructure for urban youth to learn and develop through the sport of rugby. Additionally in 2020-2021 we provided target relief to students and families impacted by the COVid-19 pandemic. Through over 7 school and 5 community partnerships we provided services to more than 120 students despite our avenues of programming being deeply impacted by COVid restrictions. Additionally we led over 18 students with deeper outreach programming opportunities consisting of over 160 program-hours of training development mentoring and support. Additionally we offered 12 different unique enrichment experiences for all participants 11 alternative fitness experiences like yoga and rock-climbing and 23 virtual engagement sessions while schools were closed. Our wraparound support programming engages students in everything from financial literacy to leadership development to mental health awareness to academic guidance and college counseling. Additionally we have greatly expanded our alumni and college support services mentoring over 15 students with a total of 400 support-hours over the year and financial support through scholarships and book and fee support. The depth of these services position MICR to have close relationships with students as they graduate which lead to various college and career opportunities for MICR alumni. MICR's alumni support program currently provides intensive support to program alumni in college or career pathways and over 75% of our coaching staff are alumni. We provide travel support and nutrition for students to attend all-star camps and matches across the entire country. Experiences this year included a trip to Orlando for a Rugby Sevens tournament for both our girls and boys programs a similar trip to the HBCU Rugby Classic in Baton Rouge and several college visits across the mid-south. Generally these expenses were reduced this year however due to the effects of the pandemic on transportation and competition availability.
