Healthy Aging Initiatives
MCOA's top priority is to implement the recommendations of the Maine Blueprint for Action on Healthy Aging. Through this work, we are advancing informed and innovative solutions to the barriers that stand in the way of us all living healthy, engaged, and secure lives as we age at home and in community settings. This work spans many sectors and issues, including housing, transportation, workforce, both ensuring an adequate direct care workforce and ensuring older workers are included as a part of the solution to Maine?s workforce shortage, care across all settings, and support for family care partners. We are keenly focused in equity in all of our work, including fighting ageism and building the framework of an age equity model.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2021 – Dec 31, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$211.6KM-DASH Project for Healthy Aging
The Municipal Data Across Sectors for Healthy Aging (M-DASH) Project is working with four pilot communities to create a data dashboard related to the unmet needs of older residents and provides technical assistance for action planning, implementation and evaluation. The project aims to improve access to health and social health services by older residents by supporting a collaborative data and planning process with municipal officials, health systems, social service providers, payers, and volunteer groups.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2021 – Dec 31, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$59.6KTri-State Learning Collaborative on Aging
The Tri-State Learning Collaborative on Aging is the regional educational arm of the Maine Council on Aging. Through this initiative we host monthly webinars and an annual conference aimed at increasing the collective impact of small, rural healthy aging initiatives through shared learning. This project effective builds bridges between volunteer groups, social services agencies and healthcare to better support the social health needs of older people. During this year, one of our great successes was hosting regular ?Resiliency and Recovery? conversations for providers who had no networks, including adult day programs, volunteer transportation programs, congregate housing providers, and senior centers.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2021 – Dec 31, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$46.1K
