Genesis Philanthropy solicits, manages and grants funds for prevention and wellness initiatives in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. Three affiliate foundations (DeWitt Community Hospital Foundation, Mercer Foundation for Health, and Genesis Health Services Foundation) work cooperatively to ensure Genesis Philanthropy meets the region's most challenging healthcare needs, as identified in Community Health Needs Assessments. Genesis Philanthropy has funded multiple initiatives in the areas of mental health/substance abuse, healthcare access, and nutrition/physical activity/weight management. Genesis Philanthropy has seeded programs (e.g. Scott County Mental Health Court, Zero Suicide Project), sustained programs, and taken others to scale. Genesis Philanthropy is funding the education of aspiring nurses at area community colleges, with particular interest in advancing the education of a diverse student population. Genesis Philanthropy engages communities in the health of its members.
