Program 1 [2020]
From Here - In 2019, Terrain moved our retail storefront from a 600 sq. ft. retail space to Spokane's urban shopping mall Riverpark Square. This new location offers 1.5 million of foot traffic per year, increasing our impact and sales for local artists featured in the store. This move has amplified our ability to support local artists in our community and expose their work to a broader audience. In 2020, we added 20 artists to the shop, bringing the total from 72 to 92 artists.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$231.4KProgram 2 [2020]
Terrain Gallery - In March of 2020 we had to close our doors to the public due to COVID. Even with the closure of our gallery we still held 9 different gallery shows. Some shows were available only online and in August of 2020 we opened back up for an art auction to support the gallery. Of the 9 shows we showed the work of 87 different artists, of those 87 artists, 28 were BIPOC, 6 identified as LBGTQ+.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$31.1KProgram 3 [2020]
Additional Programs - In 2020, we branched out with partners on a large-scale Black Lives Matter mural at 244 W. Main Ave. - a partnership with Seven 2 and 14Four - commissioning 16 different BIPOC artists to create what is now the largest sign in Spokane. This project not only put artists to work, but it also provided a space for the BIPOC community to reflect on the social justice uprising. Collaborating on the mural was a way for our organization to remain nimble, open, resourceful, inventive, supportive, and responsive to all that was happening. We also worked with the artists to create a t-shirt with the mural image on it to raise funds for The Black Lens, an independent community publication, based in Spokane, that is focused on the news, events, people, issues, and information of importance to the African American community. We began fundraising for the East Sprague Public Art Project. Working in collaboration with Carl Maxey Center, Terrain will produce a unique, large-scale public art project focused on underserved communities in the East Sprague Neighborhood. Established as a suburb for working-class, immigrant families, East Central is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city and continues to be one of the most diverse. The project will include working very closely with neighborhood leaders, schools, and community centers to collect photographs and stories from those living in the East Sprague neighborhood and use these to create several murals throughout the neighborhood. The goal of the public art piece is to pay homage to the neighborhood and the people who live there. We have continued successfully fundraising for the project throughout 2021 and plan to complete the public art project in 2022. Due to COVID restrictions we were unable to hold our large art markets Bazaar & BrrrZAAR. We were excited to bring Bazaar back in August 2021 the event put $145,593 back into participating vendors pockets. BrrrZAAR is scheduled for December 18th, 2021 and are looking forward to another successful event after having to cancel 2020's event.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2020 – Dec 31, 2020Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$14.6K
