Immigrant Economic Recovery and Resilience (IERRI)
IERRI, founded during the pandemic, fosters economic mobility and small business opportunities tailored to needs and interests of diverse populations. IERRI links 8 grassroots agencies to build career preparation capacity and enhance services for Spanish-, Haitian Kreyol-, and Portuguese-speakers (plus other languages). This model, with Career Coaching as its cornerstone and customized to needs and aspirations of diverse students including those with low native literacy and diverse migratory statuses, has not previously existed in Boston.GeographiesBoston, MA, USADatesNov 17, 2023 – Nov 17, 2023SourceUser-generatedAdult education,Equal opportunity in education,Student services,Vocational educationEconomically disadvantaged people,Immigrants and migrants,Self-employed people,Unemployed people350–English for Immigrant Entrepreneurs (E4IE)
Business and cooperative owners gain English and tech skills in the context of business content to grow businesses/coops offering household-sustaining wages, creating jobs, and bolstering business districts. The model integrates group learning with self-paced participation, building English proficiency in the context of marketing, customer service, budgeting, licenses/loans and other skills. E4IE weaves expertise from ESOL and business education providers to impact growth of immigrant-owned micro-businesses and cooperatives.GeographiesBoston Metropolitan Area, USADatesNov 17, 2023 – Nov 17, 2023SourceUser-generatedBusiness and industry,Community improvement,Economic developmentAdults,Economically disadvantaged people,Immigrants and migrants,Self-employed people,Unemployed people47–ESOL for Parents: A Dual-Generation Model
Through ESOL for Parents, ENB partners with Boston Public Schools and community ESOL providers to invest in immigrant parents’ English skills, employment readiness, and knowledge to support children’s academic progress and social wellbeing. The curriculum teaches parents about Navigating Schools, School Involvement/Expectations of Parents, Advocacy and Special Education, Helping with Homework, Building Literacy Skills, Preparing for College, and Accessing Community Resources. As many parents have children with special needs, classes emphasize the Advocacy & Special Ed unit. Childcare enrichment programming and tutoring are offered while parents attend classes.GeographiesBoston Metropolitan Area, USADatesNov 17, 2023 – Nov 17, 2023SourceUser-generatedAdult education,Early childhood education,Elementary and secondary education,Equal opportunity in educationChildren and youth,Caregivers,Families,Parents,Economically disadvantaged people,Immigrants and migrants152–
