Supporting adults from 17 countries to achieve economic mobility through employment.
Generation is a global NGO whose mission is to support adults of all ages to achieve economic mobility through quality education and sustainable employment. Generation trains, places, and supports individuals into living-wage jobs that transform the course of their lives, enabling social mobility with positive intergenerational impact. To date, we have supported over 115,000 graduates in careers across 40 professions with 15,000 employers in five sectors: Technology, Green Jobs, Healthcare, Customer Service & Sales, and Skilled Trades. Over 54% of the learners we serve are women. Our network comprises a global hub (Generation: You Employed, or GYE) and country teams operating across 17 countries. GYE’s strategy is anchored on three pillars: Innovate: Advancing our Shared Delivery Platform, which comprises the curricula, tools, digital systems, data tracking, and services that underpin each of the seven steps of our methodology. All 17 Generation country teams leverage our Shared Delivery Platform daily in local programming, enabling cost-effective growth and network-wide quality. Advocate: Disseminating the takeaways of our original research grounded in our daily work to inform policy decisions and employer practices (generation.org/perspectives). Grow: Extending our services to job deserts and communities affected by forced migration by training and placing learners in remote tech jobs. We measure our impact along three fronts, with the ambition to move forward on all three dimensions simultaneously: 1. Breadth: Since 2015, we have served over 117,000 graduates (54% women) and 15,000 employers across 40 professions in 17 countries. 2. Depth: Three months after graduation, graduates achieve an 80% employment rate, rising to 86% within six months. Of our employed graduates, 88% are in jobs directly related to the profession for which we have trained them. Over 70% are earning above a living wage within one year of program completion in 11 of our 17 countries. 3. Durability: The total earnings of our alumni exceeds $1 billion. 83% of alumni in high-income countries, 91% in upper-middle-income countries, and 62% in lower-middle income countries remain employed 2-5 years post-graduation. Our work combining program delivery, field research, and advocacy with employers and policymakers positions us as a unique stakeholder in our field. We leverage the insights from our 40 million data points—spanning the learner lifecycle from application to five years post-graduation—to invest in the drivers shaping economic mobility trajectories.GeographiesAustralia;Brazil;Colombia;Chile;France;Ghana;Hong Kong;India;Ireland;Italy;Kenya;Mexico;Singapore;Spain;Thailand;United Kingdom;United StatesDatesNot indicatedSourceUser-generatedEconomic developmentEconomically disadvantaged people117K–
