Coding Training and Internship Program
Training program: In 2022, AnnieCannons offered a 10-month Coding Training Program and a 6-month Developer Internship program specifically for survivors of human trafficking. The goal of the program is to create a viable exit ramp from cyclical violence and exploitation through sustainable access to economic power by providing in-demand and lucrative job skills to survivors. The program is free to attend and provides assistance to students in the form of childcare, transportation assistance and service referrals.a. Coding Training Program: In 2022, AnnieCannons graduated 2 cohorts of students and 1 Internship cohort. 21 (91%) graduated from the digital literacy module, which teaches trainees fundamental skills for the workplace, such as how to operate a computer, how to use workplace tools, and an introduction to the software development lifecycle. 15 trainees went on to complete the website development module, which includes building and maintaining WordPress sites. This education is invaluable since over 60% of the worlds content management systems are built with WordPress.Graduates also have skills in two of the most important web technologies: HTML and CSS. Following the website development training, 13 trainees went on to complete the web application development module, which prepares participants with the fundamentals of development on custom web applications. This module incorporates practice projects and some of the most in-demand technologies, thus generating broader employment opportunities for the trainees.b. Developer Internship Program: We were able to finalize the following outcomes and activities:i. 10 survivors joined and completed our pilot 6-month Internship Program. Interns spent 4400 hours of development hours working on real projects. We documented thousands of lines of code written, and all of our participants worked on three different technical teams, submitting tickets and deploying code. Our interns worked on 11 different software platforms, including software solutions for reproductive justice, self-healing, fighting trafficking in the US, and analyzing trends in forced labor. Our interns spent over 50 hours with mentors from Motorola and Google, and they engaged in 15 professional development workshops with 23 guest speakers. We also tracked over 600 hours in advanced learning, thanks to our partnership with Udemy. We hired a Student Success Coordinator, and built 11 new partnerships with service providers for student support and referrals. All interns were compensated for their work as part-time employees of the organization and all were offered full medical, dental, and vision benefits.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$1.4M
