Jobs Justice & ClimateA core area of RDIs long standing JJC program in 2020 was helping bring together the Renew New England Alliance to create a vision of policies for a public job program and bold climate action throughout the six states. This regional coalition of over fifty leading labor unions, racial justice organizations, Abenaki tribal leaders, environmental advocates, frontline communities, and peoples movement organizations, is focused on advancing a comprehensive policy agenda modeled on the Green New Deal framework. In 2020, RDI built and coordinated the Vermont Renews and New Renews Coalitions to carry out this work in each state, serving as a core anchor organization for the regional alliance. In the spring of 2020 we held a series of community meetings with over 700 people entitled Visioning For a Green Mountain New Deal Workshop.Our JJC work also included work in response to the interconnected crises our communities faced in 2020 with the COVID health pandemic, unemployment crisis and the crisis of racism plaguing our communities. Our team helped support and coordinate local mutual aid efforts, organizing around the worsening overdose crisis and we joined national efforts with Unemployed Action to push for the expansion of unemployment benefits. In July, we held a Vermont Unemployment Insurance Town Hall to raise attention to the crisis. Rural OrganizingIn 2020, the Rural Organizing was RDIs second program area of work which centered around engaging people about the health care crisis, education justice and conducting leadership education training with emerging leaders. We held film screenings of Big Pharma and workshops about racial justice, collective liberation, use of narrative and stories in movement building and fundraising. IN 2024, RDI ENGAGED IN COMMUNITY ORGANIZING EFFORTS IN VERMONT AND NEW HAMPSHIRE ON TOPICS RELATED TO HOUSING, HEALTHCARE, ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE, AND EDUCATION. THIS CONSISTED OF DOOR KNOCKING, MAKING PHONE CALLS, AND CANVASSING AT COMMUNITY EVENTS.
