Westcave Preserve Education Programs
Westcave Preserve School Education Programs. Our primary educational goal for field trip programs is to enhance elementary school science education by offering extraordinary nature experience while supporting state minded learning requirements. Historically, approximately 10,000 schoolchildren each year are provided an exceptional nature experience which allows them to observe, firsthand, the science concepts taught in the classroom. This firsthand experience has a tremendous impact on their ability to understand and to remember lessons taught in the classroom. Schools select field trip topics including The Westcave Story, Animals and Botanical Marvels, and Water. Lifeblood of the Earth. All school field trips are led by dedicated staff and designed for the specific grade level of the visiting class. The education staff is also able to tailor field trips to coincide. Conservation: Our staff provides ongoing land management and trail maintenance to ensure that Westcave remains a prime example of effective land and water conservation. Westcave's stewardship of its grotto, rainwater ponds, and riparian areas supports local water cycles and mitigates the impact of drought - a significant climate vulnerability in Central Texas. Healthy green spaces like Westcave's preserve help manage stormwater, reduce erosion, and maintain groundwater recharge, providing natural climate adaptation benefits for the region. Westcave protects the quality and quantity of natural springs and other water sources including the Heinz Creek branch of the Pedernales River and the Middle Trinity Aquifer. We are also part of the Motus Tracking system identifying the migratory patterns of birds and insects as well as Dark Sky initiatives to help limit light pollution so we can see more of our immense galaxy.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2023 – Jun 30, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$122.3K
