  • Program 2 [2020]

    The Kindling Fund is a statewide granting program for artist project grants that engage the public in meaningful ways outside of traditional arts institutions. It is part of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts Regional Regranting Network. In 2020, the Kindling Fund granted $68,500 to 15 projects, impacting 31 different artists across the state.The Andy Warhol Foundation authorized the Kindling Fund to re-allocate some grant funds to create an emergency relief fund for visual artists impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. 71 artists received $1,000 each through the Maine Visual Artist Emergency Grant Program.(Continued on Schedule O)SPACE Gallery also partnered with the Bob Crewe Foundation in 2020 to create the Maine Musician Relief Fund to aid musicians who were suffering economically from the COVID-19 pandemic. $71,500 in grants were distributed to 76 artists.

    SPACE's Congress Street landmark building is also home to 31 below-market artist studios, including a collective printmaking shop and an artist residency studio. SPACE maintains and identifies as an active artist community, offering programmatic opportunities including open studios, classes, artist talks, workshops, subsidized studios, and stipends for artist residencies for Maine and national artists.
