KENNEDY CHALLENGED 244 OF AMERICA'S PROMINENT ATTORNEYS TO SPEARHEAD THE CAUSE FOR EQUAL JUSTICE DURING A TUMULTUOUS CIVIL RIGHTS ERA. THE LAWYERS' COMMITTEE WAS FOUNDED AT THIS CLOSED DOOR MEETING AND HAS BEEN AT THE FOREFRONT OF EFFORTS TO ADVANCE CIVIL RIGHTS EVER SINCE. TODAY, THE LAWYERS' COMMITTEE IS A NONPARTISAN, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION WHOSE PRINCIPAL MISSION IS TO SECURE EQUAL JUSTICE FOR ALL THROUGH THE RULE OF LAW, TARGETING IN PARTICULAR THE INEQUITIES CONFRONTING AFRICAN AMERICANS AND OTHER RACIAL AND ETHNIC MINORITIES.
