Program 1 [2020]
The APA Publishing is responsible for the dissemination of psychological information worldwide. This includes 89 scholarly journals, two newsletters, a book and video publishing program, seven electronic database products, and higher education digital learning solutions. In 2020, the APA journals program published more than 58,000 pages representing more than 4,800 articles in 512 journal issues. In 2019, APA launched the new Open Access Platform, APA Open, with the new journal Technology, Mind, and Behavior. In 2020, the journal received 100 submissions. By the end of 2020, PsycArticles, the electronic database product containing full-text journal content, contained almost 220,000 manuscripts, dating back to 1894. 2020 also marked the first full year since the release of the 7th edition of the Publications Manual of the American Psychological Association. With more than one million print copies of the paperback, spiral and hardcover versions in circulation, the 7th edition is making an impact in academia. In addition to being widely used in psychology and nursing, it has also been adopted in dozens of other academic disciplines, with course adoption requests on the rise. To date, translation licenses have been sold for Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Greek, and Turkish editions. During 2020, APA published 42 scholarly professional book titles spanning the breadth and depth of psychology, two LifeTools (APA's self-help imprint) and a two-volume reference handbook on sports and exercise psychology. Magination Press, APA's children's book imprint, released 35 new titles. APA also released 11 individual video titles in both DVD and in streaming formats and 39 videos on PsycTherapy, which was relaunched with a new look, new features and new content in August. More than 179,300 records were released into the PsycInfo database in 2020, bringing the total number of records in the database to more than 4.9 million, and the total number of cited references in the database to almost 125 million. The number of journals covered by PsycInfo at the end of 2020 was 2,273. PsycInfo also includes the metadata records for the PsycArticles and PsycBooks databases. PsycTests, the research database on psychological tests, measures, scales, surveys and other assessments, grew by 4,057 new records totaling more than 62,900 records at the end of 2020. In the spring of 2019, APA launched PsycLearn, an immersive digital learning experience that uses interactive technology to deliver personalized content to undergraduate psychology students. In 2020, PsycLearn: Research Methods had over 4,000 users at 41 institutions In August of 2020, a second course - PsycLearn: Introduction to Social Psychology was launched. Over 500 students benefited from the latest PsycLearn product. The APA Membership Office includes Membership Marketing, Service Center, Division Engagement, and Media & Events. The focus of the office is to recruit, retain and engage members through a variety of efforts including integrated campaigns employing a mix of digital and traditional channels. Member engagement efforts focus primarily on conducting research to understand member needs, and then delivering content, products, services and experiences that add value to each membership. Division Engagement provides operational support and select services for APA's 54 divisions which are interest groups organized by members. Media & Event Sales enable advertisers, sponsors, exhibitors and strategic alliances to reach psychologists through APA's unique channels. The APA Education directorate played a strong role in the area of quality assurance for the 1,201 accredited programs in health service psychology. The directorate also plays an important role in shaping the educational experience of tomorrow's psychologists and in providing continuing professional education for today's practitioner. Continuing education is offered through 400 programs on a variety of topics and formats including web delivered, book-based and journal article-based programs.
