Healthy Living Programs
Healthy Living: Health is more than fitness-it's community, connection, and resilience. At the YMCA of South Hampton Roads, we empower more than 220,000 individuals of all ages and abilities to live their healthiest lives through inclusive wellness programs, fitness classes, and tailored support for seniors and those managing chronic conditions. In 2024, our reach extended to 3 million visits. And, we provided $3,106,127 in membership subsidies to help our neighbors gain access to the critical support and services offered by the Y, eliminating cost as a barrier to better health. Through our Virtual Y, more than 86,000 sessions have been logged where people accessed low-cost wellness and enrichment programs showing that wherever you are, health is within reach.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$27MYouth Development Programs
Youth Development: At the YMCA of South Hampton Roads, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to shine. Whether through our state-licensed summer camps or ACA-accredited overnight experiences, we create spaces where kids and teens can thrive academically, physically, and emotionally. In 2024, over 38,272 youth participated in our programs, turning moments of fun into milestones of growth. As more families sought safe, enriching environments for their children, we rose to meet the demand. We provided $1,867,609 in financial assistance to 4,915 children because opportunity should never depend on income. Each child's experience is a step toward confidence, capability, and a brighter future. The Y's youth programs continually evolve to meet the needs of the community with many Ys offering access to youth sports, preschool, before and after school child care, summer day camp, overnight camp, martial arts, tumbling, dance, leaders clubs, swimming lessons, swim teams teams plus neighborhood-specific programming that directly supports an individual city or community need.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$20.4MSocial Responsibility Initiatives
Social Responsibility: For nearly two centuries, the YMCA has stood for service, equity, and belonging. In 2024, that commitment was as strong as ever. Through new partnerships with local donors, the Boys and Young Men of Color strategy and committee launched to offer no-cost access to the Y's signature programs for teens. Our six Health Equity Campuses remain open and active dedicated to reducing barriers and providing vital services. The Safety Around Water program reached 4,301 children with life-saving swim instruction and equitable access, including transportation support. Through initiatives like our fully donor-funded sponsor-a-teen membership program, which welcomed 3,287 teens aged 13-17, we're driving change and opening doors for youth across the region.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$297.8K
