The Blue Ridge Humane Society is a nonprofit, limited-admission animal welfare organization dedicated to ensuring the highest quality of life for animals in Henderson County and our neighboring communities through adoption, outreach, and education. 968 animals were adopted out this fiscal year, and 419 of the animals adopted stayed in foster homes before their adoption. The Blue Ridge Humane Society provides several community programs to keep animals in homes and out of the shelter system. They provide financial assistance for the medical treatment of animals to the general public. Individuals who qualify receive financial aid for heartworm, flea and tick medicine, wellness check-ups, required vaccinations, and emergency surgeries. 201 pet owners received veterinary assistance, 908 vaccines were administered at low-cost vaccine clinics, and 200 animals were rehomed through our program. The Society also combats food insecurity for pets by partnering with local food banks, delivering 79,456 pounds of pet food to local pantries, including distributions through the Meals on Wheels Pets Pals program. This initiative ensures that pets of Meals on Wheels recipients receive food, flea and tick prevention, litter, and spay/neuter services. Overall, 8,927 pet owners were supported through pet food drives and giveaways.
