TRANSCARE WAS ORIGINALLY ESTABLISHED TO PROVIDE BAKER ACT TRANSPORTS AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO TRANSPORTING INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING A BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CRISIS VIA LAW ENFORCEMENT. SERVICES EXPANDED TO INCLUDE 911 BASIC LIFE SUPPORT AND ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT INTER-FACILITY TRANSPORTS AS A WAY TO LESSEN THE BURDEN ON OTHER 911 SERVICES THROUGHOUT OUR COMMUNITY. BY PROVIDING THESE TRANSPORTS THROUGHOUT HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, WE'RE ABLE TO ENSURE THAT PATIENTS IN THE MIDST OF A MENTAL HEALTH OR MEDICAL CRISIS RECEIVE TRAUMA INFORMED CARE DURING TRANSPORT TO ONGOING BEHAVIORAL OR MEDICAL SERVICES. BEHAVIORAL HEALTH TRANSPORTS WERE PROVIDED TO 8,472 PEOPLE, WITH AN ADDITIONAL 26,544 PATIENTS RECEIVING MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION. (SEE SCHEDULE O).LAST YEAR, TRANSCARE PROVIDED BEHAVIORAL HEALTH TRANSPORTS TO 8,472 INDIVIDUALS, WITH AN ADDITIONAL 26,544 RECEIVING MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION FOR BASIC OR ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT SERVICES. TRANSCARE STAFF CONTINUE TO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND WHEN PROVIDING PATIENT CARE THROUGHOUT OUR COMMUNITY, AS SEEN THROUGH THE WORK OF A PAIR OF OUR EMTS RECENTLY. OUR STAFF RESPONDED TO A 911 CALL FOR BACK PAIN AND WEAKNESS. UPON ARRIVAL, THE TRANSCARE CREW FOUND THE PATIENT SITTING ON THE LIVING ROOM FLOOR. THE PATIENT'S WIFE SAID THE PATIENT ATTEMPTED TO GET UP AND FELT WEAK AND FELL TO THE GROUND. THE CREW ASSESSED THE PATIENT AND TOOK VITAL SIGNS. UPON THE PATIENT'S REQUEST, THEY HELPED THE PATIENT INTO A CHAIR. THE PATIENT THEN REFUSED ANY TRANSPORT TO THE HOSPITAL AND ASKED FOR ASSISTANCE TO GET TO THE BEDROOM. AFTER TRYING MULTIPLE TIMES TO GET THE PATIENT TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL, THEY ASSISTED THE PATIENT TO THE BEDROOM. AFTER GETTING THE PATIENT TO HIS ROOM, THE PATIENT BECAME UNRESPONSIVE ON THE CREW. THE CREW IMMEDIATELY STARTED LIFE-SAVING MEASURES ON THE PATIENT. THE CREW MOVED THE PATIENT TO THE FLOOR, CHECKED FOR A PULSE, BEGAN CPR, AND CALLED FOR TAMPA FIRE RESCUE ALS. THEY INSERTED AN ORAL AIRWAY AND USED A BAG VALVE MASK TO VENTILATE THE PATIENT. THE AED WAS APPLIED, AND NO SHOCK WAS ADVISED. UPON ARRIVAL OF TFR, THE CREW WORKED WITH THE ALS CREW TO CONTINUE CPR AND TURNED OVER CARE. UNFORTUNATELY, THE PATIENT DID NOT SURVIVE. THE PARAMEDIC FROM RESCUE 15 CALLED TO SAY THE CREW DID ALL THEY COULD AND WERE AN INTEGRAL PART OF PATIENT CARE. THE RESCUE 15 CREW INQUIRED SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT HOW THE TRANSCARE CREW WAS DOING AFTER A CALL LIKE THAT. TRANSCARE SUPERVISION AND MANAGEMENT DEBRIEFED THE CREW AND FOLLOWED UP TO ENSURE THEY WERE OKAY. THE GATEWAY INCLUDES THE 211 CALL CENTER, WHERE CLIENTS RECEIVE IMMEDIATE INFORMATION AND REFERRALS FOR SOCIAL SERVICES; THE 988 SUICIDE & CRISIS LIFELINE; THE STATEWIDE RAPE CRISIS HOTLINE; THE NCADI STATEWIDE SUBSTANCE MISUSE HOTLINE; THE STATEWIDE FLORIDA VETERANS SUPPORT LINE; THE FIRST RESPONDER HOPE LINE; AND THE LET'S TALK LINE. STAFF ARE AVAILABLE 24/7 TO PROVIDE EMOTIONAL SUPPORT AND LINKAGES TO RESOURCES BOTH WITHIN THE CRISIS CENTER AND THROUGH COMMUNITY PARTNERS. THE GATEWAY CONTACT CENTER ANSWERED 111,809 CALLS, WITH 51,800 BEING SUICIDE AND CRISIS CALLS AND 60,009 BEING REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION AND REFERRALS. (SEE SCHEDULE O).THE GATEWAY CONTACT CENTER ANSWERED 111,8090 CALLS LAST YEAR, WITH 51,800 BEING SUICIDE AND CRISIS CALLS AND 60,009 BEING REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION AND REFERRALS. 4,339 SUICIDE PREVENTION ASSESSMENTS WERE PROVIDED TO INDIVIDUALS WHO CALLED THE 988 SUICIDE & CRISIS LIFELINE. THE FLORIDA VETERANS SUPPORT LINE RESPONDED TO 19,097 REQUESTS FOR HELP FROM VETERANS AND THEIR LOVED ONES AND PROVIDED ONGOING CARE COORDINATION TO 2,543 INDIVIDUALS.ONE INDIVIDUAL WHO WAS HELPED THROUGH THE CONTACT CENTER WAS VIVICKA. VIVICKA REACHED OUT TO 211 CRISIS, OVERWHELMED AND EMOTIONALLY EXHAUSTED. SHE HAD BEEN SEEKING HELP BUT WASN'T SURE WHERE TO TURN. AS SHE SHARED HER STORY, THE SPECIALIST LISTENED WITH EMPATHY, ENCOURAGING HER TO OPEN UP ABOUT WHAT WAS CAUSING HER DISTRESS. VIVICKA REVEALED THAT SHE HAD BEEN SEXUALLY ASSAULTED TWO DAYS EARLIER BY TWO MEN. SHE HAD TRIED TO SUPPRESS THE TRAUMA BY STAYING BUSY, BUT SHE WAS STRUGGLING TO COPE AND UNSURE OF HER NEXT STEPS.THE SPECIALIST PROVIDED A SAFE, NONJUDGMENTAL SPACE FOR VIVICKA AND OUTLINED THE OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO HER. THEY EMPHASIZED THAT ANY DECISION SHE MADE WAS ENTIRELY HER OWN, OFFERING INFORMATION ABOUT THE SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE CRISIS CENTER, INCLUDING SEXUAL ASSAULT EXAMS, TRAUMA COUNSELING, AND ADVOCACY SUPPORT.INITIALLY, VIVICKA EXPRESSED APPREHENSION ABOUT UNDERGOING AN EXAM, WORRIED ABOUT WHAT IT MIGHT ENTAIL AND THE EMOTIONAL JOURNEY IT COULD BRING. THE SPECIALIST REASSURED HER THAT IT WAS OKAY TO DECLINE FOR NOW AND INFORMED HER SHE HAD UP TO 72 HOURS TO RECONSIDER. WITH UNDERSTANDING AND CARE, THE SPECIALIST OFFERED TO CONNECT HER WITH COUNSELING AND FOLLOW-UP SERVICES TO ENSURE SHE FELT SUPPORTED.ABOUT AN HOUR LATER, VIVICKA CALLED 211 AGAIN. WHILE NERVOUS ABOUT RETELLING HER STORY, SHE FELT REASSURED BY THE COMPASSION AND EMPOWERMENT SHOWN BY THE SECOND SPECIALIST. THIS TIME, SHE EXPRESSED A DESIRE TO MOVE FORWARD WITH SCHEDULING A SEXUAL ASSAULT EXAM.THROUGH HER CONVERSATIONS WITH THE 211 SPECIALISTS, VIVICKA FOUND CLARITY, UNDERSTANDING, AND THE STRENGTH TO TAKE HER NEXT STEPS. THE CORBETT TRAUMA CENTER CONSISTS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT SERVICES AND TRAUMA COUNSELING. AS THE CERTIFIED RAPE CRISIS CENTER FOR HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, ANY INDIVIDUAL 13 YEARS AND OLDER WHO SEEKS SUPPORT FOLLOWING A SEXUAL ASSAULT IS BROUGHT TO OUR CLINIC TO RECEIVE ONE-ON-ONE SERVICES. WE ARE THE ALTERNATIVE TO A HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM, WITH CLIENTS IMMEDIATELY BEING GREETED BY A SEXUAL ASSAULT NURSE EXAMINER AND A VICTIM ADVOCATE. THESE STAFF MEMBERS COLLECT EVIDENCE FOR THE RAPE KIT WHILE ALSO PROVIDING EMOTIONAL SUPPORT AND ONGOING ADVOCACY AS CLIENTS BEGIN TO HEAL FROM THEIR TRAUMA AND MOVE THEIR CASES THROUGH THE COURT SYSTEM. THE SEXUAL ASSAULT SERVICES TEAM RESPONDED TO 292 FORENSIC EXAMS, AND PROVIDED ADVOCACY AND SUPPORT TO AN ADDITIONAL 546 CLIENTS. (SEE SCHEDULE O).MANY INDIVIDUALS THROUGHOUT OUR COMMUNITY SEEK OUR SERVICES FOLLOWING A SIGNIFICANT LIFE EVENT. DUE TO THIS, THE CRISIS CENTER OFFERS EVIDENCE-BASED TRAUMA COUNSELING SERVICES. LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIANS PROVIDE THERAPY SERVICES TO CLIENTS OF ALL AGES. COUNSELING SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE IN THREE LOCATIONS IN HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, AS WELL AS VIA TELETHERAPY TO CLIENTS 13 YEARS AND OLDER. THE CRISIS CENTER HELD 7,683 COUNSELING SESSIONS FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS. A TOTAL OF 310 NEW CLIENTS RECEIVED COUNSELING SERVICES, WITH 86 OF THESE INDIVIDUALS BEING CHILDREN.THE SEXUAL ASSAULT SERVICES TEAM PROVIDED 292 FORENSIC EXAMS, AND ADVOCACY AND SUPPORT TO AN ADDITIONAL 546 CLIENTS LAST YEAR. THE TRAUMA COUNSELING TEAM PROVIDED 7,683 COUNSELING SESSIONS. A TOTAL OF 310 NEW CLIENTS WERE SERVED, WITH 86 OF THESE INDIVIDUALS BEING KIDS."SKYE" IS A SUCCESSFUL COLLEGE STUDENT AND INVOLVED WITH MANY CAMPUS ACTIVITIES PRIOR TO BEING VIOLENTLY ASSAULTED AFTER AN EVENING OUT WITH FRIENDS. SHE INITIALLY PRESENTED AT A LOCAL HOSPITAL AND WAS REFERRED TO THE CRISIS CENTER OF TAMPA BAY. SHE WAS SHAKING WHEN SHE ARRIVED FOR THE EXAM AT THE CRISIS CENTER. SKYE REPORTED SHE WAS FEELING ANXIOUS ABOUT HER PARENTS FINDING OUT ABOUT THE ASSAULT, EVEN THOUGH SHE IS AN ADULT. THE ADVOCATE AND NURSE PROVIDED SUPPORT AND EDUCATION TO INFORM HER OF HER PRIVACY AND DECISION RIGHTS. SHE WAS WORRIED HER PARENTS WOULD FIND OUT ABOUT THE ASSAULT THROUGH HER HEALTH INSURANCE, BUT WE INFORMED HER THAT SERVICES ARE FREE FOR HER. AS PART OF HER TREATMENT, SKYE CONSENTED TO RECEIVE SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE PREVENTION MEDICATION. SHE WAS NERVOUS TO RECEIVE THE INJECTION, BUT THE ADVOCATE WAS ABLE TO HOLD HER HAND THROUGHOUT AND PROVIDE REASSURING AND CALMING MESSAGES. POST EXAM, SKYE CONTINUED TO CONNECT WITH THE TEAM AND WAS CONNECTED WITH HER CAMPUS SERVICES. WHEN SHE WAS READY TO END SERVICES WITH US, SHE STATED THE FOLLOWING COMMENT ON A SURVEY: "CALM, SWEET, AND KIND, THEY MADE THIS A MILLION TIMES EASIER.
