Orlando Shakespeare Theater's Signature Series in Season 35 was a celebration of storytelling, history, and musical brilliance, designed to captivate and inspire audiences with a diverse range of productions. The Signature Series opened with Million Dollar Quartet, a high-energy jukebox musical that brought to life the legendary recording session with Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins. We followed with Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors, a fast-paced, hilarious tale of mistaken identity and farcical confusion, reminding audiences of the timeless joy of classic comedy. Our season continued with Boulevard of Bold Dreams, a powerful new play that explored the untold story behind Hattie McDaniel's historic Oscar win, highlighting themes of resilience and representation in the entertainment industry. Henry 6, Part 1 marked the beginning of an ambitious journey into Shakespeare's history plays, delving into themes of war, power, and the making of a king. For a provocative and thrilling theatrical experience, Venus in Fur brought a modern, meta-theatrical exploration of gender, power, and seduction. Finally, we closed the season with Ain't Misbehavin', a vibrant, toe-tapping tribute to the Harlem Renaissance and the legendary Fats Waller, celebrating the rich history of jazz and Black artistry. This season was curated to offer a dynamic mix of classical, contemporary, and musical theater, ensuring a compelling experience for all audiences. Orlando Shakespeare Theater's Season 35 wasn't just about our Signature Series productions-it also brought beloved annual traditions, vibrant live music experiences, and Playfest to our audiences. The holiday season sparkled with our beloved adaptation of A Christmas Carol, a timeless tale of redemption and holiday spirit that continues to warm hearts year after year. For young audiences and families, The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs offered a fresh, hilarious twist on the classic fairy tale, inviting children to see the story from a whole new perspective. We also introduced Playfest, a series of short, thought-provoking plays that showcased emerging voices and experimental storytelling, providing a platform for fresh narratives in an intimate setting. In addition, we continued our popular Cabaret Series in the courtyard, transforming our outdoor space into a lively, music-filled retreat under the stars. Audiences were treated to stellar performances by local favorites, including The Sounds of Soul, Michael Andrew, Chase Padgett, The Vocalitas, and Ebony Carlson, creating unforgettable evenings of live entertainment. Orlando Shakespeare Theater's Season 35 Educational Programming continued to inspire and engage students of all ages through a dynamic mix of learning and performance opportunities. Our Summer Camps provided young artists with hands-on theater training, while The Young Company offered aspiring performers the chance to develop their skills in a professional setting.
