The Humane Society of Marion County, Inc. (HSMC) provides food, shelter, and medical care for homeless dogs and cats while working to find them permanent homes. Supported by staff and over 500 active volunteers donating 1,000+ hours monthly, HSMC also aims to prevent cruelty, suffering, and overpopulation through a low-cost veterinary clinic and community outreach. The HSMC Animial Clinic offers low-cost spay/neuter and wellness services to the public at a subsidized rate. Weekly adoption events are held at PetSmart, Pet Supermarket, Petco and Petsense to increase adoptions. The Humane Education Program offers seasonal camps, a literacy program, and in-school clases to teach Marion County students about the humane treatment of animals.
