SEE SCHEDULE O DURING THIS FISCAL YEAR, INDIAN RIVER HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HELPED TO PROVIDE DECENT AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR 17 FAMILIES IN INDIAN RIVER COUNTY THROUGH THE BUILDING OR RENOVATING OF HOUSES. HOMES FOR AN ADDITIONAL 55 FAMILIES WERE OBTAINED THROUGH INTERNATIONAL TITHING. THE AFFILIATE ENGAGED IN 80 REPAIR PROJECTS FOR THE ELDERLY, THE INFIRMED, AND VETERANS WHO OWN AND OCCUPY THEIR HOMES. APPROXIMATELY 1,045 VOLUNTEERS WERE MOBILIZED LOCALLY TO WORK TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE THESE ACCOMPLISHMENTS. HOMEOWNERS ATTENDED BUDGET COUNSELING AND HOMEOWNERSHIP WORKSHOPS. GOING FORWARD,THEY WILL PAY LOW-COST, NO-INTEREST MORTGAGES, WHICH WILL HELP CREATE A PERPETUAL SOURCE OF FUNDING FOR FUTURE PROJECTS. HOME OWNERSHIP PROGRAM - Habitat for Humanity partners with families in need to build safe, decent, and energy efficient homes. Our homes are designed for lasting affordability and to meet the needs of homeowner families. By utilizing the labor of volunteers and future homeowners, using efficient building techniques, and utilizing donated materials, Habitat offers homes to working families using affordable, non-interest-bearing mortgages. This model makes home ownership accessible and sustainable for families in need. Attainable home ownership creates stability, reduces stress, and fosters self-reliance and confidence. Studies show that stable homes play a crucial role in healthy child development. When a home supports health, safety, and security, it provides a strong foundation for families to thrive. Home ownership also empowers families to save for the future, invest in education, and pursue career growth, ultimately lifting the entire family. Indian River Habitat launched its ambitious housing counseling program (HCP) with an overarching goal to provide financial counseling and education to become fully equipped to make informed decisions along the pre-purchase and post-purchase home ownership continuum. The design flow of the HCP is systematic, and it is geared toward reducing or eliminating potential barriers, resulting in the opportunity to deepen and lengthen our reach. Standard HUD guidelines and practices are established to direct families through a series of distinct steps, from completing an intake packet to fulfilling the requirements of one of three home ownership paths - an open market purchase, entrance into the Habitat Homeownership Program, or ongoing counseling for families that are currently unqualified to purchase a home. Indian River Habitat is confident that this program will help additional families achieve home ownership. HABITAT'S RESTORE - Habitat's ReStore serves a dual purpose: generating revenue to support our affordable homeownership program and offering home furnishings, appliances, building materials, and other essential items to homeowners and the public at significantly reduced prices. The store's inventory is made possible through generous donations of new and gently used items from businesses and individuals.
