Ascension St. John Volunteer Support Program
THE ASCENSION ST. JOHN AUXILIARY, INC. IS PROUD TO SUPPORT THE PATIENTS, FAMILIES, PHYSICIANS, AND STAFF OF ASCENSION ST. JOHN. THERE WERE A TOTAL OF 180 VOLUNTEERS (NOT INCLUDING NON-COMPENSATED DIRECTORS LISTED IN FORM 990, PART VII) WHICH GAVE 13,817 HOURS OF SERVICES THROUGHOUT 4 OF THE ASCENSION ST. JOHN HEALTH SYSTEM FACILITIES: ST. JOHN MEDICAL CENTER, ST. JOHN BROKEN ARROW, ST. JOHN OWASSO, AND ST. JOHN SAPULPA. VOLUNTEERS SERVE IN AREAS SUCH AS SURGERY WAITING, PATIENT DISMISSALS, FLOWER DELIVERY, GIFT SHOPS, PEDIATRICS, PET THERAPY, PASTORAL CARE VISITORS, AND MANY MORE. BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC, AND IN ORDER TO KEEP OUR VOLUNTEERS SAFE, THE VOLUNTEERS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SERVE INSIDE OUR HOSPITALS FROM MARCH 15, 2020 UNTIL NOVEMBER 15, 2020. WE HAVE RESTORED SOME VOLUNTEERS TO SERVICE WHERE LEADERSHIP FELT VOLUNTEERS COULD SERVE SAFELY AND WHERE VOLUNTEERS WOULD BE HELPFUL. NEARLY ALL THE MONEY IS RAISED FROM THE DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS OF THE ASCENSION ST. JOHN AUXILIARY GIFT SHOPS. THE ASCENSION ST. JOHN AUXILIARY, INC. FIRMLY BELIEVES IN INSPIRING OUR YOUTH THROUGH OUR JUNIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM AND THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL INTERNSHIPS. HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHADOW DOCTORS AND NURSES AND LEARN ABOUT CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN MEDICINE AND NURSING, AND VOLUNTEER SERVICE TO AREAS OF THE HOSPITALS. THIS PAST YEAR WE HAD 52 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM 37 AREA HIGH SCHOOLS AND SOME OF THE STUDENTS WERE HOMESCHOOLED. THE STUDENTS SERVED 2,169 HOURS OF SERVICE. ADDITIONALLY, 128 ADULTS SERVED 11,648 HOURS OF SERVICE. As part of the Ascension Catholic health ministry, the filing organization served in support of Ascension's commitment to both care for patients and communities and support caregivers and other associates through the challenges of the COVID-19 global pandemic in FY20 and FY21.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2020 – Jun 30, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$175.2KProgram 1 [2024]
THE FILING ORGANIZATION IS A PART OF THE ASCENSION CATHOLIC HEALTH MINISTRY. ASCENSION IS A FAITH-BASED HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATION THAT DELIVERS PERSONALIZED, COMPASSIONATE CARE TO ALL, ESPECIALLY TO THOSE WHO NEED IT THE MOST. The Ascension St. John Auxiliary is comprised of volunteers who provide hospitality and compassionate care to our patients, guests and associates at our hospitals in Tulsa, Owasso, Broken Arrow, and Sapulpa. For this fiscal year we hosted 162 junior volunteers (high school students) who are considering healthcare as a profession. We hosted 75 of these students this past summer at the medical center for an intensive program where they volunteered, shadowed, learned from guest presenters and met with community partners. We have 4 hospital gift shops and the proceeds allowed us to give more than $100,000 towards our pledge for Neurosciences. We also helped Ascension St. John with programs like American Heart Association Heart Walk and United Way.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJul 1, 2023 – Jun 30, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$128.1K
