Education Programs:North Branch Nature Center served more than 2,600 people through six programs including Forest Preschool, Summer Nature Camps, ECO (a standards-based program in collaboration with nine area public schools), and ECO Teacher institute, offering graduate-level for-credit courses for professional educators. Public Natural History Programs:Birdfest and caterpillar day are our two most popular annual inter-generational events, each drawing more than 200 attendees. Our naturalist journeys Lectures and slide shows draw crowds of up to 125 attendees on mid-winter evenings to hear speakers from around new england. Recent topics have included polar exploration, shark conservation, Yellowstone ecology, and Grand Canyon geology. Citizen Science:Hands on citizen science opportunities include amphibian monitoring, monarch butterfly tagging, owl banding, and songbird counts. Our public owl banding engagement events draw over 100 members of the public, and we have trained a volunteer network to assist the banding and collection process. Our Amphibian Monitoring Program has expanded to collaborate with VT agencies and conservation organizations around transportation planning and statistical modeling of amphibian movement.
