Buffalo Resurrection Documentary Project
Buffalo Resurrection - Buffalo Resurrection is a feature length documentary about the Blackfeet Nation's efforts to establish a wild bison herd on their reservation, one that can roam in and out of Glacier National Park. We have been working on this project since 2017 and its a long, slow process. We are following the story as it develops and we have no control over the speed of that process.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2021 – Dec 31, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$119.5KFiscal Sponsorship for HumanKind Film
Served as a fiscal sponsor for the film HumanKind. HumanKind is a feature documentary based on the work of Riane Eisler and meant to demonstrate that it's possible to create more caring, egalitarian cultures. Thunderheart, as a fiscal sponsor, receives donations and grants for the film and helps with the accounting but otherwise isn't involved in the creation of the film.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2021 – Dec 31, 2021Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$14.4KProgram 1 [2024]
Our primary program to date has been the film Bring Them Home. In 2024, we finally completed the film and premiered it at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival where we won the Big Sky Award. We simultaneously launched an impact campaign to use the film to help the Blackfeet return wild buffalo and generate support for buffalo rewilding around the country. This impact campaign generated more than 30 community screenings and 25 festival screenings. We also completed a short film, Buffalo Spirit, which is a companion short to Bring Them Home.We also begin active development on Bring Them Home's sister project, Buffalo Stone, recruiting a producer for the project, doing more intensive rounds of writing of the script, and starting to approach potential funders of the project. Finally, we continue to fiscally sponsor the film project HumanKind, which completed production and entered post-production in 2024.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2024 – Dec 31, 2024Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$357.2K
