Next Generation Abortion Provider Program
Next Generation Abortion Provider Program: 1) To date, medical students and residents have traveled to Phoenix from 19 states and 3 regions of Canada to be trained in reproductive health care with an emphasis on abortion training. Clinical instruction includes abortion, contraception, early pregnancy loss, and other common womens health conditions. We apply a reproductive justice lens to our work, so students have and experience very different from their traditional clinical rotations. 1 - 4 week rotations can be scheduled at Desert Star Family Planning, LLC. We are a preferred site for the Medical Students for Choice Reproductive Health Externship Program. Out of state post graduate physicians must obtain a temporary Arizona medical or osteopathic license. This patient-centered experience takes place in a private doctors office that fully integrates abortion with routine well care. 11 people were trained over 34 total training weeks in 2022, impacted by the supreme court dobbs decision that overturned roe v wade in June 2022. 7 trainees were displaced and 17 weeks of rotations were lost.GeographiesNot indicatedDatesJan 1, 2022 – Dec 31, 2022Source990No causes providedNo populations provided–$47.8KCommunity Education and Engagement
Community Education and Engagement: 1) Hosted, co-hosted, provided speakers for 24 lectures/community events in 2022. Approximately 1200 community members reached through live participation and viewing of recorded content. 3) We convened 3 community coalitions for reproductive rights and justice and was a core participant in a 4th.
