Community Support and Development Initiatives
The Northeast Houston Redevelopment Council (NEHRC) focuses on these primary areas: Food insecurity; Educational equity; and Community infrastructure and environment. NEHRC donated $36,000 to 10 local food pantry operations. NEHRC spent $26,000 to support the operation of Northeast Community Farmers Market which provides SNAP and Double Up benefits to residents. The organization spent more than $5,000 on community and residential gardening operations. In the area of education, NEHRC has donated $21,000 to 21 graduates of Kashmere High School in 2024. NEHRC donated more than $12,000 to wraparound services in seven schools of the Kashmere feeder pattern throughout the year. NEHRC donated $5,000 to sponsor drone training by United In Service Coalition for a student STEM event. NEHRC spent $50,000 to assist community residents in their recovery from the derecho high wind storm. NEHRC also donated approximately $45,000 to aid residents in their recovery from Hurricane Beryl. NEHRC spent approximately $10,000 for directors to attend various environmental justice workshops, conferences and trainings.
